Overview

OMB is an Italian manufacturer of engineered valves and flow control solutions for the energy industry, headquartered in Northern Italy's industrial cluster near Bergamo. The company was founded in 1973 by Dr. Roberto Brevi, whose career in the valve industry began in 1956 at OMBA, an Italian piping components manufacturer. Starting from a small garage in the village of Cenate, OMB grew into a globally recognized supplier of forged steel valves for oil and gas and other major industrial applications. OMB's product range covers forged steel gate, globe, check, floating and trunnion ball, triple-offset butterfly, pipeline gate valves, and other engineered valves. These serve upstream oil and gas, pipelines and terminals, refining and chemical, LNG and cryogenics, air separation for hydrogen and oxygen, power generation, renewable energies, water and hydropower, marine, and aerospace applications. The company positions itself as a diversified manufacturer with deep valve engineering know-how, supported by its group R&D structure, BUTI Research, which provides engineering services, failure analysis, flow calculation, and prototype and validation testing. OMB is family owned and operated with a multicultural organization. Its international expansion includes a first international office in Houston, Texas, in 1992; OMB Asia Pte Ltd in Singapore in 1995; the acquisition of Calobri in 1998; the founding of Industrial Valve Manufacturer (IVM) in Saudi Arabia as an OMB licensee in 2001; the founding of Fluicon in 2011 for triple offset butterfly valves; and the opening of an OMB Valves Inc. plant in Stafford, Texas, in 2012. The company emphasizes Italian sourcing of forgings and components, quality certifications such as ISO 9001, API 6A, API 6D, API 6DSS, API 602, ATEX, and SIL Level II and III, and a global aftersale service network.

History

OMB's history began in a small garage in the village of Cenate, a few kilometers west of Bergamo in Northern Italy, where Roberto Brevi and his colleagues manufactured forged steel valves. Mr. Brevi's career in the valve industry began in 1956 at OMBA, an Italian manufacturer of piping components that became part of the Gulf+Western conglomerate from the 1960s. In 1973 he founded OMB to manufacture forged steel valves for the growing global oil and gas market. The company expanded its product range and international footprint over the following decades. In 1982 it introduced a new line of forged ball valves targeting the offshore sector. In 1992 it opened its first international office in Houston, Texas. In 1995 OMB Asia Pte Ltd was established in Singapore, focused on forged steel valves to serve the growing Asian market; since its start, all forgings and components have been sourced only in Italy. In 1998 OMB acquired Calobri, a manufacturer of forged steel valves based in Milan, Italy, founded in 1948 and specialized in engineered valves for the North Sea offshore market. In 2001 Industrial Valve Manufacturer (IVM) was founded as an OMB licensee, becoming the first fully integrated manufacturing plant of forged and ball valves to operate in the country with the approval of Saudi Aramco. In 2011 Fluicon was founded as a 100% owned subsidiary devoted to the development of the triple offset butterfly valve line. In 2012 OMB Valves Inc. opened a plant in Stafford, Texas. Today OMB is globally renowned for its high-quality flow control solutions for major industrial applications. Its journey highlights a commitment to learning, improving, and adapting to the energy sector's changing demands. The company remains family owned and operated, headquartered in Northern Italy's industrial cluster, with a multicultural culture and organization. Through BUTI Research, its group R&D structure, OMB offers engineering services to support customers navigating changing industry requirements.
