Overview
ONE COMPATH CO., LTD. is a Japanese information-services company headquartered in Shibaura, Minato-ku, Tokyo, and a wholly owned subsidiary of TOPPAN Inc. (formerly Toppan Printing). The company traces its origins to CyberMap Japan Corp., established on 20 January 1997 with investment from Toppan Printing, Nippon Telegraph and Telephone East (later transferred to NTT Communications), Dentsu, Yahoo, and Sharp. On 21 April 1997 it launched Mapion, described as Japan's first internet map search service. The company renamed itself Mapion Co., Ltd. on 1 April 2009 to match its flagship service, became a wholly owned subsidiary of Toppan Printing on 19 June 2015, and on 1 April 2019 changed its corporate name to ONE COMPATH CO., LTD. while taking over Toppan Printing's electronic flyer business Shufoo!. ONE COMPATH operates consumer-facing internet services centered on everyday life — the "one mile" around the user. Its best-known properties are Mapion, a map search service launched in 1997; Shufoo!, an electronic flyer (digital circular) service started by Toppan Printing in 2001 and transferred to ONE COMPATH in 2019; and aruku&, a walking app launched for iOS on 7 November 2016 that also offers corporate services for health-management programs. The company has also developed services such as the distance-measurement tool Kyorisei, the Mapion Biz corporate map solution, the cycle-compass app U-ROUTE, and the store-consumer communication platform LocalONE. It has discontinued some offerings, including the housekeeping-comparison service Kajidore, which ended on 30 May 2024. The company positions itself around improving daily life through data and AI, describing an ambition to update its own organizational "OS" to be AI-driven and to reinvent how it engages with the "one mile" of everyday living. Its representative director, president and CEO is Rei Hayakawa, who joined Toppan Printing in 2000 and moved through branding and Shufoo!-related roles before assuming the top post in April 2019. As of 1 April 2026 the company reported 130 employees and capital of 100 million yen. Its head office is in the TOPPAN Shibaura Building in Minato-ku, Tokyo.
History
ONE COMPATH's history begins with CyberMap Japan Corp., established on 20 January 1997 by Toppan Printing, Nippon Telegraph and Telephone East (later transferred to NTT Communications), Dentsu, Yahoo, and Sharp. On 21 April 1997 the company launched Mapion, which it describes as Japan's first internet map search service. In December 1997 Mapion received Best Web of the Year '97 awards, including first place overall, a newcomer award, and a regional-information/information-source category award. Through the 2000s the company expanded Mapion's functionality. In January 2002 it launched MapionBB for broadband users. In November 2004 it introduced the scrollable map "Mapion Lab" as a members-only experimental service. In June 2006 it released the distance-measurement tool Kyorisei in beta, and in August 2006 it began offering an Ajax version of its maps. In January 2007 it launched "Mapion Navi Norikae + Toho Route," combining transit guidance and walking-route search. In November 2007 it launched "Mapion Touch" for iPod touch and iPhone. In December 2008 it launched the driving-route search "Mapion Drive." On 1 April 2009 the company changed its name to Mapion Co., Ltd. to align with its service name. Later that month it revamped its map and search functions. In July 2009 it launched a video search service, and in August 2009 a postal-code search. In October 2009 Mapion's maps won a Good Design Award for fiscal 2009. In February 2010 it revamped the accommodation search "Mapion Travel," and in April 2010 it reported monthly users exceeding 10 million. In October 2010 it revamped "Mapion Weather Forecast." On 19 June 2015 Mapion became a wholly owned subsidiary of Toppan Printing. On 7 November 2016 it launched the walking app aruku& for iOS, which lets users earn regional specialty products simply by walking. On 1 April 2019 the company changed its corporate name to ONE COMPATH CO., LTD. and took over Toppan Printing's electronic flyer business Shufoo!, integrating the internet map service Mapion with the electronic flyer service Shufoo!. In the 2020s the company continued to launch and adjust services. On 17 August 2020 it transferred the distribution and operation of the location-based game "Keitai Kunitouri Gassen" to MyNet Games. On 27 August 2020 it launched the housekeeping-comparison service Kajidore. On 1 November 2021 it launched the cycle-compass app U-ROUTE. On 31 January 2022 it launched the store-consumer communication platform LocalONE. On 30 May 2024, at 11:00 a.m., it ended the Kajidore service.
