Overview
Platz Goko (プラッツ五香) is a shopping center located in Goko, Matsudo, Chiba Prefecture, Japan. It is operated and managed by Rio Consulting and opened under the name Platz Goko on September 4, 2019. The facility's catchphrase is "On sunny days, rainy days, and cloudy days, we always want to support your life. By your side and your family's side." The building itself dates back to April 17, 1992, when it opened as the Chujitsuya Franz Goko store. After Chujitsuya was absorbed into Daiei in 1994, the store was renamed Daiei Goko. Daiei closed the store on November 27, 2005, as part of restructuring under the Industrial Revitalization Corporation of Japan. The site later reopened as Owl Goko, and then became Platz Goko in 2019. The shopping center is anchored by Super Value (later Lopia), Kohnan, Daiso, and Tokyo Shoes Distribution Center. Despite having "Goko" in its name, the nearest station is Motoyama Station, not Goko Station.
History
The building that now houses Platz Goko originally opened on April 17, 1992, as the Chujitsuya Franz Goko store. Chujitsuya was absorbed into Daiei on March 1, 1994, and the store was renamed Daiei Goko. Due to worsening business performance, Daiei came under the Industrial Revitalization Corporation of Japan in October 2004 and announced the closure of 54 stores nationwide on February 1, 2005. Daiei Goko closed on November 27, 2005. The site later reopened as Owl Goko, and on September 4, 2019, it was rebranded as Platz Goko under the operation of Rio Consulting. The shopping center continues to serve the local community with a variety of tenants.
