Oxxynova originated from the former Dynamit Nobel AG and was the leading DMT producer in Europe until December 31, 2022. The company name is derived from the oxidation of paraxylene, a key process in DMT production. DMT was produced at the Steyerberg site since 1977, initially as liquid DMT and since 2013 also as solid DMT using the Witten-Katzschmann process. In 2020, Oxxynova GmbH fulfilled all requirements for the Entsorgungsfachbetrieb certificate, and in 2021 the first surveillance audit by TÜV Nord confirmed compliance. The DMT plant and industrial site are currently in standby mode.
