Overview

After falling into disrepair and being slated for demolition in late 1999, it was saved and transformed into a community auditorium and intimate venue for live acts of all genres. Today it hosts multiple events each week and again offers a full movie schedule alongside live entertainment, with ongoing upgrades to sound, lighting, concessions, and amenities.
History
The Historic Palace Theatre opened its doors in 1938 as a movie house on Main Street in downtown Crossville. It opened with a grand celebration on November 21, 1938, featuring the Ronald Coleman classic movie "If I were King," with admission at 31 cents for the best seat. The Palace remained an integral part of the community for the next 40 years, hosting movies, live entertainment events including beauty pageants, and an appearance by cowboy movie star Bob Steele and his trained horse. It continued to show first run movies in the 1960s and 1970s. After closing in 1978, the theater fell into disrepair. In 1983, a group known as Cumberland Heritage began to push for its renovation. In 1989, author David Naylor listed the Palace in his book "Great American Movie Theaters" as one of Tennessee's best surviving theatres. After valiant attempts by community leaders to restore it, it was slated for the wrecking ball in late 1999, but was saved and transformed into a community auditorium and intimate venue for class acts of all genres. The Palace now hosts multiple events each week and again offers a full movie schedule alongside live entertainment, with ongoing upgrades to sound, lighting, concessions, and amenities.
