Overview
Paritetbank (Open Joint-Stock Company "Paritetbank") is a Belarusian commercial bank headquartered in Minsk. It was registered by the National Bank of the Republic of Belarus on 15 May 1991 under the name commercial bank "Poisk", and on 5 May 2004 the bank was renamed OJSC "Paritetbank". It operates as an open joint-stock company and, according to its own disclosures, is neither the head organization of a banking group or banking holding nor a participant in one. The bank serves both private individuals and business clients. Its retail line-up includes debit and virtual cards with cashback, salary cards, consumer and cash loans, term deposits in BYN, RUB and USD, P2P transfers to more than 60 countries, and foreign-exchange services. Its flagship digital channel is the iParitet mobile bank, which consolidates the client's banking products in one app; a separate corporate mobile application, eParitet, won an award from the Association of Belarusian Banks in 2022. Marketing leans on named card products such as #КОМБОкарта (with cashback up to 10.0% in money), the #будутденьги cash loan, and limited-edition retro "TurboCard" Mastercard Gold cards. Paritetbank is a member of the Banking Association for Central and Eastern Europe (BACEE) on regular membership terms. Its registered charter fund is divided into more than 220 billion shares, including ordinary and preference shares. The bank has been led by Chairman of the Board Sergey Aleksandrovich Karpov since 18 July 2022. In November 2022, amid the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the bank was placed under Canadian sanctions as part of a sector described as critically important to the Lukashenko regime. With more than three decades on the market, Paritetbank maintains a branch and service-centre network across Belarus, with banking service centres in Minsk and vacancies advertised in cities including Grodno, Brest, Baranovichi, Gomel, Mozyr, Zhlobin, Novopolotsk, Mogilev, Bobruisk, Stolin, David-Gorodok, Lida, Orsha, Vitebsk and Pinsk.
History
Paritetbank traces its origin to 15 May 1991, when the National Bank of the Republic of Belarus registered the commercial bank "Poisk". The institution operated under that name for more than a decade during the early years of independent Belarus and its emerging banking system. On 5 May 2004 the bank was renamed OJSC "Paritetbank", the name under which it has operated since. Over the following years the bank developed into a universal commercial institution serving both retail and corporate clients. Its legal form is an open joint-stock company, and its registered charter fund is divided into 220,329,656,400 shares, comprising 220,310,818,106 ordinary shares and 18,838,294 preference shares, each with a nominal value of 0.0003 Belarusian rubles. The bank states that it is neither the head organization of a banking group or banking holding nor a participant in one. It is a regular member of the Banking Association for Central and Eastern Europe (BACEE). In 2018 Paritetbank twice applied to acquire the Ukrainian subsidiary of Russia's Sberbank, and twice received a refusal from the National Bank of Ukraine. In 2022 the bank's corporate mobile application eParitet received an award from the Association of Belarusian Banks at the Bank of the Year awards in the category "Mobile application for legal entities" on 12 May 2022. On 18 July 2022 Sergey Aleksandrovich Karpov became Chairman of the Board. On 22 November 2022, against the backdrop of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the bank was placed under Canadian sanctions, on the grounds that it represents a sector of the economy described as critically important to the Lukashenko regime and its current policy, which threatens the security of Ukraine and Ukrainians. In the mid-2020s the bank continued to expand its retail product line and digital channels. Its public communications highlight the iParitet mobile bank, cashback card products such as #КОМБОкарта, the #будутденьги cash loan, limited-edition retro TurboCard Mastercard Gold cards, international transfers and cross-border payment services, including payments for cars purchased in China. The bank also maintains a network of banking service centres and recruits staff across numerous Belarusian cities, including Minsk, Grodno, Brest, Baranovichi, Gomel, Mozyr, Zhlobin, Novopolotsk, Mogilev, Bobruisk, Stolin, David-Gorodok, Lida, Orsha, Vitebsk and Pinsk.
