Overview

Pavimental S.p.A. was an Italian company specializing in the construction and maintenance of complex road and motorway infrastructure, particularly asphalt paving and technical surfacing. Founded on 4 May 1970 as COSAT - Costruzioni Stradali Asfalti S.p.A. within the Todini group, it was renamed Pavimental S.p.A. on 12 December 1983. The company became part of the Italian state-owned IRI group in 1981 and was later integrated into Autostrade per l'Italia, the motorway operator. For decades, Pavimental was the exclusive maintenance provider for the Italian public motorway network, and it also operated internationally, notably through its Polish subsidiary Pavimental Polska. In December 2020, the company was split, with its airport division becoming ADR Infrastrutture S.p.A. In September 2022, Pavimental S.p.A. was renamed AMPLIA Infrastructures S.p.A., reflecting its focus on road infrastructure. The company is headquartered in Rome and remains a subsidiary of Autostrade per l'Italia, which has been under public control since 2021. In 2021, the group reported revenues of €573.1 million and a net margin of €23.4 million.

History

Pavimental S.p.A. was established on 4 May 1970 as COSAT - Costruzioni Stradali Asfalti S.p.A. (Road Construction and Asphalts) within the Todini S.p.A. public works group. In 1981, after recognizing the company's technological advancement, Italstrade S.p.A., part of the Italian state-owned IRI group, acquired 60% of its capital. On 12 December 1983, the company changed its name to Pavimental S.p.A. In 1984, it came under the full control of Italstat of the IRI group. In 1991, the company was integrated into the holding Iritecna S.p.A., which was renamed Fintecna in 1994. In 1996, 52% of the company's capital was transferred to Autostrade S.p.A., a subsidiary of Fintecna (formerly IRI). In 1999, the Italian state launched a large privatization program to comply with European Commission requirements, and Autostrade S.p.A. was purchased by Edizione Holding of the Benetton group. In 2008, a subsidiary was created in Poland, Pavimental Polska Sp. z o.o., specializing in transport, road, and aeronautical infrastructure as well as environmental engineering. On 18 December 2020, Pavimental SpA was split into two independent parts: the road division and the airport division, the latter renamed ADR Infrastrutture S.p.A., a 100% subsidiary of Pavimental SpA. On 21 January 2021, ADR Infrastrutture SpA was transferred to Aeroporti di Roma, also a subsidiary of Atlantia SpA. In May 2021, following the collapse of a section of the Morandi viaduct in Genoa, the Autostrade per l'Italia group, a subsidiary of Atlantia SpA, was nationalized and came under the control of Cassa Depositi e Prestiti. On 15 March 2023, the Atlantia SpA group was renamed Mundys SpA. Pavimental SpA, refocused on road works, came under public control like its parent company. In September 2022, Pavimental SpA was renamed AMPLIA Infrastructures SpA.
