Overview

PBsystems, Inc. (株式会社ピー・ビーシステムズ) is a Japanese information technology company headquartered in Hakata-ku, Fukuoka. Founded in February 1997 by Kazuhisa Tomita and Takahiro Morisaki, the company began as a specialist in system virtualization—the precursor to cloud computing—and has grown into one of Japan's recognized virtualization and cloud system integrators. Its corporate philosophy, adopted in 2016, emphasizes wisdom, courage, and perseverance, while its business principle is to provide computer systems that are most rational for the customer at any given time. The company operates two main business segments. The Secure Cloud System (SCL) segment provides hybrid cloud infrastructure, cybersecurity solutions, and smart factory initiatives for enterprises and local governments. The Emotional System (EMO) segment develops and sells the MetaWalkers® (formerly 4D王/4DOH) immersive VR theater, a 360-degree 3D projection system, along with MetaAnywhere® and metaverse solutions for corporate and municipal clients. PBsystems is known for its early and sustained focus on virtualization, having operated the "Citrix Flame Bulletin Board" (シトリックス炎の掲示板) to share technical information, and for authoring books on MetaFrame technology. The company listed on the Fukuoka Stock Exchange Q-Board in September 2019 and on the Tokyo Stock Exchange Growth Market in October 2022. As of September 2025, it employed 73 people (excluding directors and auditors). Its headquarters are in Fukuoka, with a Tokyo office in Shinagawa. PBsystems continues to pursue innovation in cloud, cybersecurity, and immersive media, positioning itself as a "professional group" for hybrid cloud and metaverse solutions.

History

PBsystems was founded in February 1997 in Hakata-ku, Fukuoka, with capital of 10 million yen by Kazuhisa Tomita and Takahiro Morisaki, who met while working at a software development company in Fukuoka. From its inception, the company focused on system virtualization technology, the precursor to cloud computing. In October 1998, it signed a MetaFrame distributor agreement with Citrix Systems. The company grew steadily, increasing capital and moving offices within Hakata-ku. In 2001, it opened a Citrix-authorized education center (CALC) and a system laboratory, and began selling "Delvai for MetaFrame." Throughout the 2000s, PBsystems released various virtualization and thin client products, including "Kitorasu for MetaFrame" and "Delvai Sec for ThinClients." It also expanded to Tokyo, opening a Tokyo office in 2005 (later consolidated back to Fukuoka in 2009). In 2010, PBsystems entered the immersive entertainment business by establishing the Emotional System Department to sell the "3D King" (later renamed "4D King" in 2011). This 360-degree 3D mini-theater was installed in various amusement and tourism facilities across Japan, including Venus Fort in Odaiba, Okinawa World, and Huis Ten Bosch. The company also produced original content for the theater. In 2016, it formulated its current corporate philosophy. In 2019, PBsystems listed on the Fukuoka Stock Exchange Q-Board and continued to innovate, announcing interactive features for its theater and cloud business expansion with Oracle. In 2020, it received a Technology Excellence Award from Citrix Systems Japan and began offering telework services. The theater was renamed "4DOH" in 2020 and then "MetaWalkers" in 2023, reflecting a shift toward metaverse and VR solutions. In October 2022, the company listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange Growth Market. Today, PBsystems operates in two segments: Secure Cloud System (SCL) and Emotional System (EMO), providing hybrid cloud, cybersecurity, smart factory, and metaverse solutions.
