Photoroom

Photoroom is an AI product image editing platform for e-commerce, offering a full AI visual solution for e-commerce from listing a first product to managing millions of SKUs. Its capabilities include background removal, AI product photography, AI shadows, product staging, batch editing, an image API, marketplace sync, brand kits, instant resize, and video templates. The company states that 1M+ businesses sell more with Photoroom, that 1 million brands create visuals with Photoroom, and that it is the #1 mobile app across 40+ countries. Photoroom was co-founded in 2019 by Matt, then a product manager at GoPro, and engineer Eliot Andres.

Photoroom's origin is described on its About page: in 2019, co-founder Matt was working as a product manager at GoPro when the marketing team urgently needed new visuals for an app feature. With the designer out of office, he spent hours manually tracing edges with a lasso tool, and concluded there had to be a better way. Months later, Matt partnered with Eliot Andres, an engineer who recognized the potential of AI early on, to build that better way, and together they co-founded Photoroom.
