Overview

Poclain is a French industrial brand founded in 1926 by Georges Bataille in Le Plessis-Belleville, France. It describes itself as a specialist in hydraulic and electric power transmission, supporting customers worldwide who build off-road machinery for agriculture, construction, and material handling. Its focus is on the mobility and actuation of machine accessories, delivered through projects, systems, solutions, and hydraulic and electric power transmission equipment. Its product ranges include hydraulic motors, hydraulic pumps, hydraulic valves, and systems.

History

The name Poclain does not come from a family of that name. At the site chosen by Georges Bataille near the family farm there was a pond once used for retting flax fibers; in the Picard dialect a pond is called a "poche", pronounced poque, and "poque à lin" (flax pond) was contracted to Poclin, then Poclain, giving the place its name. Georges Bataille adopted it in 1926 to found the Poclain company in Le Plessis-Belleville, France. In 2015 Poclain Hydraulics marked its 30th birthday, launched the MHP 20/27 High Performance motors, and acquired Grandry Technologies, which became the group's casting division; the Addidrive system for light vehicles was first presented by the Poclain Powertrain division at the EquipAuto tradeshow in Paris in September 2015. In 2019 Frédéric Michelland became Chief Executive Officer. In 2020 the USA Yorkville site was expanded. In 2022 the company cites electrohydraulic technology. In 2023 a new factory was built in Spilamberto, Italy, following relocation from Gaggio, as a center of excellence for axial piston pumps with 40% additional capacity in machining and assembly, and the HEVO program, initiated in 2021, was publicly launched. In 2025 Poclain, described as a French family-owned mid-sized industrial enterprise, announced a governance evolution with the arrival of Charles Bataille and Stéphanie Saboly Bataille alongside Laurent Bataille as Presidents of the Group.
