History

Polynt states it has been active for over 70 years in the production, sales, research and development of organic anhydrides and their derivatives. According to its corporate history, the FTALITAL complex opened in 1955, mainly dedicated to the production of Phthalic Anhydride used for synthetic materials. In 1965 Alusuisse S.A. acquired FTALITAL. Over the mid-1970s the company, renamed Lonza S.p.A., expanded production capacity through acquisitions and construction of new industrial sites. In 1979 it acquired Distillerie Italiane S.p.A., and over the 1980s it continued to grow through acquisitions. A Maleic Anhydride plant opened in Ravenna in 1990. In 1999 Lonza Group separated from Alusuisse and was listed on the Zurich Stock Exchange. Between 2001 and 2005, it acquired two Lonza companies based in Miehlen, Germany (2001), merged with two Lonza Group companies based in Italy and opened a Polish site (2003). The history entry then references 2006 and Polynt.
