Pure Project Brewing

Pure Project is a San Diego craft brewery that describes itself as dedicated to its craft and the planet, using beer (and beyond beer) as a force for good. Its story began in 2013 when friends from San Diego, Jesse Pine and Mat Robar, were on a backpacking trip in the Rocky Mountains and conceived the idea of opening a craft brewery in Manuel Antonio, Costa Rica, which became the Manuel Antonio Brewing Company. After deciding not to continue in Costa Rica, the business moved back to the states and took a space in Miramar with a prebuilt brewing system. Pure Project operates tasting rooms in Balboa Park, Carlsbad, Miramar, North Park, and Vista, where its brewery HQ is located. It offers craft non-alcoholic beers such as Grounded IPA and sunsip blonde, and runs a Pure Brew Crew taproom beer club through its mobile app.

Pure Project's story began in 2013 when friends from San Diego, Jesse Pine and Mat Robar, were on a backpacking trip with friends in the Rocky Mountains. During the trip, the idea took shape to open a craft brewery in Manuel Antonio, Costa Rica, and the Manuel Antonio Brewing Company was born. After raising money, brewing in the jungle, and going through the process of starting the business in Costa Rica, the founders decided not to move forward in Costa Rica because the area did not have the right infrastructure (wastewater treatment, cold transportation, etc.). The weekend they made that decision, they received a call about a space opening up in Miramar with a prebuilt brewing system that would allow them to get up and running quickly, and within a month they had a lease signed. Pure Project now operates tasting rooms in Balboa Park, Carlsbad, Miramar, North Park, and Vista, where its brewery HQ is located.
