Overview
Putailai (Shanghai Putailai New Energy Technology Group Co., Ltd.) is a Chinese supplier of key materials and automated equipment for new-energy batteries. Founded in November 2012 in Zhangjiang, Shanghai, the company positions itself as a comprehensive solutions provider for lithium-ion battery materials and automation equipment, serving the clean-energy, energy-saving and high-efficiency storage sectors. It listed on the main board of the Shanghai Stock Exchange in November 2017. The company operates five main business lines: anode materials, membrane materials and coating, automation equipment, functional materials, and electrode coating services. Its anode materials business, centered on subsidiaries such as Jiangxi Zichen, develops graphite anodes with fast-charging performance and is advancing silicon-carbon and hard-carbon products toward pilot and mass production, with integrated graphitization and carbonization capacity in Sichuan and Inner Mongolia. Its membrane and coating business is described as China's largest independent separator coating processor, with integrated base film, coating, slurry and binder capabilities, and it is expanding into aluminum-plastic film. Its automation equipment arm, Jiatuo Intelligent, provides complete intelligent lithium-battery equipment solutions. Functional materials include binders and ceramic powders developed to improve cell performance, while electrode coating services use the company's own coating lines to deliver customer-formula electrode processing and mass production. Putailai serves leading global power-battery customers and has been expanding overseas, including establishing a U.S. subsidiary in 2024 and participating in international events such as The Battery Show Europe 2023. It has also pursued sustainability and ESG recognition, receiving an MSCI ESG rating upgrade to A and a China Chengxin Green Finance ESG rating of A, and it engages in public-welfare activities such as the "Putailai Pearl Class" scholarship program.
History
Putailai was registered in Zhangjiang, Shanghai in November 2012 as "Putailai Limited," establishing a corporate strategy focused on key lithium-battery materials and automated specialized equipment. In December 2012 it formed the joint venture Jiangxi Zichen to enter the lithium-battery anode materials field. In April 2013 the company acquired Shenzhen Jiatuo to enter lithium-battery coating equipment. In July 2014 it increased capital to acquire Dongguan Zhuogao, entering lithium-ion separator coating, and wholly established Zhejiang Jidun for micro-nano powders and other coating materials. In April 2015 it established Dongguan Zhuoyue to enter aluminum-plastic packaging film. In July 2016 it acquired Shanghai Diannengyuan, renamed Shanghai Yuequan in August of that year, to enter separator base film. In July 2017 it wholly established Jiangsu Jiatuo to deepen its lithium-battery core equipment business, and in November 2017 it listed on the main board of the Shanghai Stock Exchange. In June 2018 its anode materials business landed in Inner Mongolia, initially achieving a full-process industrial layout for anode materials. In June 2019 it took a stake in Zhenxing Carbon Materials to enter the needle coke field, and Jiatuo completed internal integration. In 2020, starting with the establishment of Sichuan Zhuoqin and Sichuan Zichen, the company advanced large-scale investment in Sichuan production bases, leveraging local hydropower resources and industrial policies to serve the southwest market and reach overseas markets via China-Europe freight trains. In May 2021 it increased capital to control Dongyangguang Fluororesin and invested in Sichuan Yindile to enter PVDF and binder fields; in August 2021 it started a South China base coating and lithium-battery equipment manufacturing project in Zhaoqing; and in November 2021 it established Hainan Pujing for SBR business. In October 2022 an RMB 8.5 billion private placement was unconditionally approved by the China Securities Regulatory Commission, and in Q4 2022 Sichuan Zhuoqin completed installation and trial production of a new-generation base film line. In February 2023 Jiatuo Intelligent completed its shareholding reform; in April 2023 Jiangsu Zhuoli was established with a planned RMB 2 billion investment to build an annual 16,000-ton composite current collector R&D and production base; and in 2023 the company signed a strategic cooperation agreement with CATL on composite copper foil current collectors. In March 2024 a separator coating "lights-out factory" was put into use; in May 2024 a U.S. subsidiary was established; and in June 2024 the Anhui Zichen 12,000-ton silicon-based anode project advanced. In 2025, the Sichuan Zichen integrated artificial graphite anode plant phase I with 100,000 tons was commissioned in March; Anhui Zichen's 400-ton CVD silicon-carbon anode was commissioned in May; and in November 2025 Sichuan Zhuoqin's base film equipment achieved single-line mass production capacity of 200 million square meters per year, planned to rise to 300 million square meters per year, with separator capacity expansion also launched. AET separator coating shipments exceeded ten billion square meters annually, and the electrode center's 8 GWh capacity was commissioned to provide toll processing for overseas customers.
