Overview

Quaker Windows & Doors is a leading U.S. manufacturer of residential and commercial window and door products, headquartered in Freeburg, Missouri. Founded in 1949 by the husband-and-wife team of Bud and Marge Knoll, the company today operates three divisions — Quaker Residential, Quartz Luxury Residential, and Quaker Commercial — and employs over 1,000 people across multiple locations. Its patented OptiCore technology is used across its residential and commercial window range.

History

Quaker Shade Co. was started by Harold & Marge Knoll in St. Louis in 1949, and later that year relocated to Marge's hometown of Freeburg, Missouri, where the company's headquarters remain. In 1954–1957 the company produced its first aluminum storm windows and storm doors, signaling a shift in direction. In 1961 Quaker's first aluminum replacement windows entered the market, and in 1962 LIFE Magazine referred to Quaker as a nationally recognized brand for quality windows. By 1979, at the peak of the storm window and storm door industry, Quaker regularly produced more than 2,000 units per day. In 1982 expansion of prime window production resulted in more than six acres of manufacturing space under roof. Quaker began making vinyl windows in 1985 and added wood clad windows in 1988, becoming one of the first companies manufacturing aluminum, vinyl and wood windows in the same location. In 1996 ground was broken on a 55,000 sq. ft. aluminum production building, and in 2004 a 65,000 sq. ft. building was erected on a new campus two miles south of the main plant in Freeburg, home to a new glass manufacturing and tempering facility. Today Quaker consists of three divisions — Quaker Residential, Quartz Luxury Residential, and Quaker Commercial — employs over 1,000 people across multiple locations, and has opened a third 150-acre manufacturing campus in Eldon, Missouri.
