Overview
Rosier Holding GmbH is the group holding company of a family-owned German automotive retail and service enterprise headquartered in Menden, North Rhine-Westphalia. The business traces its origins to 28 February 1927, when Heinrich Rosier Senior founded a car rental company in Menden. Within two years he had added a Derop petrol station and a workshop, and by 1932 he was actively selling Mercedes-Benz passenger cars and trucks. A dealer contract with Auto Union AG followed in 1936, covering Audi, Horch, Wanderer and DKW. Over the following decades the company expanded across the Sauerland region and beyond, adding Volkswagen and Audi franchises, opening new showrooms and service centres, and acquiring rival dealerships. The modern Rosier Group operates 22 locations with 30 businesses (as of 5 April 2026) in North Rhine-Westphalia, Lower Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and on the island of Sylt. Its brand portfolio includes Mercedes-Benz, Volkswagen, Audi and Peugeot, with dedicated sales and service operations for passenger cars, commercial vehicles and vans. The group also runs used-car centres under the "Autostrada" name and offers financing, leasing and insurance packages through manufacturer banks. A customer loyalty card and newsletter support the retail business. Rosier Holding GmbH was entered in the commercial register of the Arnsberg local court in December 2017, although the holding structure had been created with effect from 1 January 2007 as the umbrella company for all trading subsidiaries. The group remains entirely in family ownership. Key milestones include the 2016 acquisition of the Mercedes-Benz branch in Braunschweig with six locations, the 2020 centralisation of commercial vehicle operations in Paderborn, and the 2024 opening of a modern administration building in Menden. In 2025 Rosier took over the Volkswagen service partner Autohaus Möller in Fröndenberg and parts of WEFA Fahrzeugbau GmbH in Paderborn, launching a nationwide vehicle-body competence centre under the WEFA Westfälische Fahrzeugbau und Hydraulikservice GmbH name. Today Rosier is one of the larger privately held automotive dealer groups in Germany, combining a long tradition of family entrepreneurship with a multi-brand, multi-region retail and service network.
History
The Rosier Group's history began on 28 February 1927 when Heinrich Rosier Senior (1907–1983) founded a car rental business in Menden. Two years later he opened a Derop petrol station and an auto repair workshop. In the 1930s he entered active car trading, selling Mercedes-Benz passenger cars and trucks from 1932. A dealer contract with Auto Union AG followed in 1936, covering the Audi, Horch, Wanderer and DKW brands. In 1960 the first branch was opened in Neheim, and a year later the truck workshop was moved to Bodelschwingstraße. Construction of the new dealership on Fröndenberger Straße in Menden began in 1962; this site remains the headquarters of the Rosier Group today. In 1967 a shop called "Der Sprechende Autosalon" opened in Menden, followed in 1969 by an air-supported hall used as a car exhibition. The Autocenter was built in 1970 and inaugurated in 1971. A Volkswagen factory contract was added in 1975, and in 1976 the "Autokaufhaus des Sauerlandes" opened in Neheim. Because Mercedes-Benz and Audi/VW had to be presented separately from 1977, a VW-Audi sales building was erected in Menden. In 1981 a second Mercedes branch opened in Hemer, and a separate Audi building was added at Fröndenberger Straße in Menden. For the first time in the Federal Republic, VW and Audi were offered in separate showrooms. The takeover of a Mercedes-Benz dealership in Oldenburg, where a new sales building was constructed, led to the formation of the Oldenburg group alongside the Menden group (today's Rosier Holding GmbH). The Oldenburg group was sold in 2015. Soon after German reunification, Auto Rosier Stendal (Mercedes-Benz) and Rosier AVG Stendal (VW/Audi) were founded. Rosier moved four times subsequently. The Autostadt Rosier Stendal opened in 1993. In 1996 Rosier took over a VW/Audi business on Arnsberger Straße in Arnsberg/Neheim-Hüsten. An Audi building was erected, and the Arnsberg Mercedes-Benz branch on Bahnhofstraße in Neheim was expanded into the vacated VW/Audi Rosier building. Under the name "Autostrada", Rosier opened a used-car market for all brands in Arnsberg in 1999. In Westerstede, Rosier took over the Mercedes dealership of Metzner in 2000. In the Sauerland region, Rosier acquired the territory of Mercedes-Benz dealer Hövel and its operations in Arnsberg, Meschede and Schmallenberg. A commercial vehicle centre opened on Bremer Heerstraße in Oldenburg in 2001. Rosier also took over the Mercedes-Benz workshop in Sundern. In 2002 the Mercedes-Benz locations in Arnsberg were consolidated in a new building on Eickelstraße in the Große Wiese industrial area. A second "Autostrada" opened in Werl, and a Chrysler dealership, Rosier, opened in Stendal. The Autostadt Rosier Arnsberg opened in 2004. In April 2006 Rosier acquired the Mercedes-Benz dealer Hofmann in Paderborn with six businesses. Rosier became a Peugeot contract partner for sales and service with three new dealerships in Arnsberg, Meschede and Soest. With effect from 1 January 2007, the Rosier Group in Menden established Rosier Holding as the umbrella company for all trading companies. At the same time, the group took over the car dealers Kress & Hansen and Spintig Automobile on Sylt. On 8 August 2009, co-shareholder Hans Jürgen Rosier died at the age of 68. In the same year the corporate structure of the Rosier Group Menden was reorganised. Alongside Heinrich Rosier, Marc Heinen became the second managing director responsible for finance and administration. In 2013 Rosier modernised its VW building at the Menden headquarters; the VW location in Arnsberg was closed. In 2016 Rosier took over the Mercedes-Benz branch in Braunschweig with six locations in Braunschweig, Goslar, Helmstedt, Peine, Seesen and Wolfsburg. In December 2017, Rosier Holding GmbH was entered in the commercial register of the Arnsberg local court. In 2019 a modernised showroom opened in Paderborn and a new Mercedes-Benz dealership opened in Menden. In 2020 Rosier centralised its commercial vehicle business in the Paderborn region and built a new Mercedes-Benz commercial vehicle centre with a van centre for trucks, transporters and buses in Paderborn-Mönkeloh. A third location for the Peugeot brand opened in Menden. On 28 September 2020, former senior boss and former co-shareholder Heinz Rosier died at the age of 85. In preparation for further growth with the Rosier Group, Rosier acquired the former MTGZ (Mendener Technologie- und Gründerzentrum) building on Franz-Kissing-Straße in Menden. After extensive modernisation and energy-efficient renovation, Rosier opened a new, highly modern office building there in 2024 for the central administration departments of marketing, human resources, accounting and controlling of Rosier Holding. In January 2025 Rosier took over the long-established VW service partner Autohaus Möller GmbH in Fröndenberg and integrated it into the VW operation in Menden. Just three months later, in March 2025, the Rosier Group expanded its commercial vehicle business and took over individual business areas and operating assets of WEFA Fahrzeugbau GmbH in Paderborn. This marked the start of building a future nationwide vehicle body competence centre under the name WEFA Westfälische Fahrzeugbau und Hydraulikservice GmbH. The existing vehicle body operation of the Rosier Group in Meschede-Berge – SFB Sauerländer Fahrzeugbau und Hydraulik – was also incorporated.
