Delius, and Ingrid Karsunke, and was the only collectively run publisher in Germany, with employees also being owners. The publisher has been based in Berlin since 2007 and publishes literary fiction, non-fiction, and crime literature.

History

Rotbuch Verlag was founded in Berlin in 1973 as a spin-off from the Klaus Wagenbach publishing house. The founders included writers and editors Anne Duden, F.C. Delius, and Ingrid Karsunke. The Kursbuch, edited by Hans Magnus Enzensberger, also moved to Rotbuch (until 1990). Rotbuch was the only collectively run publisher in Germany: employees were identical with the owners and decided jointly on organization, finances, and program. Significant dramatists such as Heiner Müller, who published his collected works with Rotbuch in 1974, Nobel laureate Dario Fo, and Franz Xaver Kroetz shaped the publisher's profile. In 1993, the then shareholders transferred their shares to the Europäische Verlagsanstalt and the publisher moved to Hamburg. There, in 2001, Rotbuch became a pure fiction publisher. Since 2007, Rotbuch has been based in Berlin again. Non-fiction, fiction, and crime literature now give the publisher its shape again. For its 40th anniversary, a jubilee edition of six outstanding debuts from past decades appeared, featuring Thomas Brasch, Agota Kristof, Emine Sevgi Özdamer, Ronald M. Schernikau, Birgit Vanderbeke, and Feridun Zaimoglu.
