Overview

Savarez is a string manufacturer whose history dates to 1770, when the Savaresse family moved from Italy to Paris and began making rectified gut strings by hand. Over the 19th and 20th centuries the company developed new ranges and technologies, including silk, steel, bronze and brass strings, nylon, and modern grinding, sizing and control methods. It created Savarez classical guitar strings in 1950 and Corelli Crystal strings for bowed instruments in 1980. The brand continues to serve musicians with products such as the Corelli SOLEA violin set and a new Savarez Banjo line for 5-string banjo.

History

Savarez's history begins in 1770, when the Savaresse family arrived from Italy and moved to Paris, manufacturing rectified gut strings by hand, open ropes, and beginning production of wound strings. Between 1880 and 1930, the successful business developed new ranges using silk and steel, bronze and brass. In 1930, major technological developments began with the arrival of nylon and the introduction of modern technologies of grinding, sizing, and control. This period saw the global success of YSAYE strings for bowed instruments developed with the master, and worldwide success of ropes for acoustic jazz, which became the strings of Django Reinhardt and were used by manufacturers of Selmer Maccaferri guitars. In 1950, Savarez created strings for classical guitar, described as the first revolution in the world of classical guitar, offering unmatched accuracy of rectified nylon treble, bass power of spun nylon, and the first to offer 3 tensions. In 1980, Corelli Crystal strings for bowed instruments were created. The brand also commemorated Alexandre Lagoya, with a tribute to Alexander and Charles Lagoya, and the 1st International Guitar Competition Alexandre Lagoya was held in Fort de France in October 2003, supported by Savarez strings. In 2015, a new Savarez website was launched.
