History
SCHWEIZER was founded in 1849 and is now managed by the 6th generation of the founding family. Christoph Schweizer's instinct for market potential and openness towards innovations from France and Switzerland brought about massive growth stimuli in the first decades after the founding. Initially, the company marketed clock faces. It gained international acclaim at the world fairs in Vienna (1873) and Chicago (1893). Between 1877 and 1893, three new factory buildings and an enamel smelting plant were constructed to meet growing demand. The manufacturing programme expanded constantly between 1903 and 1916. In 1936, SCHWEIZER became a joint-stock company, and in 1949 it celebrated its 100th anniversary. In 1958, production of PCBs began. A new factory in Dunningen was inaugurated in 1967. In 1979, the company celebrated its 130th anniversary and premises in Sulgen opened. The first joint venture with a company from Singapore was agreed in 1982. In 1989, the company celebrated its 140th anniversary and was floated on the stock exchange in Frankfurt and Stuttgart. The second decade of the new millennium brought further partnerships with MEIKO (2009) and Elekonta Marek (2013). In 2014, WUS Printed Circuits became a shareholder to serve the high-frequency PCB market together with SCHWEIZER, and towards the end of the company's 165th year, Infineon joined SCHWEIZER to jointly tap the chip embedding market for automotive and industrial applications. In 2018, SCHWEIZER laid the foundation stone of a new high-tech production site.
