Overview

SESAME is a smart lock product line developed by CANDY HOUSE, Inc. The brand originated from an idea by Jerming Gu, a Taiwanese student at Stanford, to turn smartphones into keys. The first SESAME robot was launched on Kickstarter in 2015. The product lineup includes SESAME 5, SESAME 6 Pro, SESAME Touch 2, SESAME Face, SESAME Bike 2, SESAME Bot 3, Hub 3, and SESAME Open Sensor 2, among others.

History

SESAME began when Jerming Gu, a 26-year-old Taiwanese student at Stanford, conceived the idea of turning smartphones into keys. He started developing a robot to operate keys via smartphone using a 3D printer he co-owned with a friend. He invited a Korean computer science engineer from Stanford to join the project and develop the software. They named the robot "SESAME" and launched it on the American crowdfunding platform Kickstarter in 2015. The response was overwhelming, surpassing their initial goal.
