Overview

Seviel Establishment is a Liechtenstein-registered group of companies active in the energy sector, owned by Czech entrepreneur Pavel Tykač. It serves as the sole shareholder of Sev.en Česká Energie, a.s. (formerly also known as Sev.en Energy AG), the Czech energy and coal-mining group. The group was formed through the merger and restructuring of the joint-stock companies Czech Coal and Severní energetická in 2013, and focuses on power generation and coal mining in the Czech Republic. It also trades in energies through Sev.en Commodities, based in Liechtenstein. A sister company, Sev.en Global Investments, a.s. (Sev.en GI), focuses on energy, mining and heavy industry in foreign markets. The overarching shareholders of both companies are the Liechtenstein entities Tilia Foundation and Indenelem Establishment, both owned by Pavel Tykač. The group's portfolio as of 2026 includes power plants Elektrárna Chvaletice and Elektrárna Počerady, heating plants Teplárna Kladno and Teplárna Zlín, mining and reclamation companies Vršanská uhelná, Severní energetická and REKULTIVACE, technical services firms Sev.en Inntech, Servis Leasing and Hlavní báňská záchranná stanice Most, IT and innovation units Infotea and Sev.en Engineering, and PR and administration company Sev.en Services. The group has announced plans to move away from coal in the Czech Republic, focusing on photovoltaic and wind power and gas, with new projects worth billions of crowns. In 2025 it announced the planned closure of the loss-making brown-coal Elektrárna Chvaletice for 2027, with Teplárna Kladno also due to cease operations that year. In 2024 Sev.en Česká Energie reported a net loss of 2.1 billion crowns, while group revenues fell 26 percent year-on-year to 1.06 billion euros (about 26.8 billion crowns). Sev.en Global Investments has been active in foreign markets since 2018, acquiring a 17 percent stake in Pennsylvania-based Corsa Coal in May 2020 and announcing the purchase of Blackhawk Mining in June 2020. In 2024 SGI surpassed revenues of two billion euros for the first time but fell into a net loss of 52 million euros. In 2026 it acquired oil and gas wells from UpCurve Energy in Texas and filed a lawsuit in an Australian federal court against CS Energy and its subsidiary Callide Energy, seeking damages exceeding one billion dollars over the 2021 explosions at the Callide C power plant.

History

Seviel Establishment is a Liechtenstein-registered group of companies active in the energy sector, owned by Czech entrepreneur Pavel Tykač. It is the sole shareholder of Sev.en Česká Energie, a.s. (formerly also known as Sev.en Energy AG), a Czech joint-stock company and group. The group was formed through the merger and restructuring of the joint-stock companies Czech Coal and Severní energetická in 2013. It focuses on energy and coal mining in the Czech Republic. Since 2018, the Sev.en Group has also been active in foreign markets. In 2021, a restructuring separated the foreign business branch under the joint-stock company Sev.en Global Investments, whose shareholder is the Liechtenstein entity Engiana Establishment, owned by Pavel Tykač. In May 2020, the Sev.en group bought a 17 percent stake in Pennsylvania-based Corsa Coal, which specializes in metallurgical coal mining for iron and steel production. This was Pavel Tykač's first major entry into the US energy market. In June 2020, Sev.en announced the purchase of Blackhawk Mining, which owns several metallurgical coal mines in West Virginia and Kentucky. The purchase price was not disclosed but was estimated at about 12 billion crowns. In early 2021, Sev.en began publicly discussing its plans for the period after the closure of its coal-fired power plants. In the energy sector, it intends to focus on photovoltaic and wind power plants and gas. These should be new projects worth billions of crowns, for which it plans to use the land of its existing power plants and other land. The intention to create a floating photovoltaic power plant on Lake Marcela was also announced, with the Palivový kombinát Ústí and Jan Evangelista Purkyně University participating. In 2024, Sev.en Česká Energie ended with a net loss of 2.1 billion crowns. A year earlier, its loss was almost three times higher. Group revenues fell 26 percent year-on-year to 1.06 billion euros (about 26.8 billion crowns). In 2024, SGI surpassed revenues of two billion euros (54 billion crowns) for the first time. However, due to falling metallurgical coal prices, accounting revaluation of Australian projects and losses from derivatives, it fell into a net loss of 52 million euros (1.3 billion crowns). In 2025, the company announced the planned closure of the loss-making brown-coal Elektrárna Chvaletice for 2027. Teplárna Kladno is also due to cease operations that year. In 2025, a dispute erupted between the state and Sev.en Energy over hundreds of millions of crowns for landscape restoration after the ČSA mine in the Most region. The state demanded money saved from modifications that arose from a decision of the Czech Mining Authority on succession (i.e., natural landscape restoration) rather than full, significantly more expensive reclamation, for municipalities directly affected by mining. The state demanded the entire saved billion crowns, but the company offered less than half, specifically 460 million crowns with other reliefs, claiming it had already invested the rest in terrain modifications. Severní energetická also demanded 150 million crowns from the state for the transfer of land. However, the state had an expert opinion according to which these lands are worth only five million crowns. In 2026, Sev.en Global Investments bought oil and gas wells from UpCurve Energy in Texas. The company established a new US holding, Sev.en US Resources. In 2026, it also filed a lawsuit at the federal court in Australia against the Australian company CS Energy and its subsidiary Callide Energy. In the lawsuit, it seeks damages exceeding one billion dollars, i.e., 21.15 billion crowns, due to the 2021 explosions at the Australian Callide C power plant.
