SkyChannel

SkyChannel, known in Japan as Sukachan (スカチャン), is a brand of satellite television channels operated by SKY Perfect JSAT Corporation. It was launched in 2005 as Sukachan! 110 on the SKY PerfecTV! 110 platform (now SKY PerfecTV!). The brand primarily provides pay-per-view (PPV) and pay-per-series (PPS) programming, allowing viewers to purchase individual programs or series rather than subscribing to entire channels. Its content spans movies, sports (including soccer, baseball, and martial arts), anime, and general entertainment. Over the years, the channel lineup has expanded and contracted, with channels broadcast on SKY PerfecTV! (110° CS), SKY PerfecTV! Premium Service, and various cable television networks. The brand has also experimented with high-definition (HD) and 3D broadcasts, and later 4K. As of 2025, several channels remain active, though some have been discontinued or rebranded. SkyChannel is a subsidiary brand under the SKY Perfect JSAT Group, which is publicly listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.

SkyChannel, known as Sukachan in Japan, was established in 2005 by SKY Perfect Communications (now SKY Perfect JSAT). The service began on March 1, 2005, as Sukachan! 110 on the SKY PerfecTV! 110 platform (later renamed e2 by SKY PerfecTV! and then SKY PerfecTV!). Initially, it consisted of two channels (Ch. 801 and 802) and was free until March 6, 2005, after which it became a paid service. The entrusted broadcasting operator was Multi Channel Entertainment (now SKY Perfect Entertainment). In 2006, Sukachan! High Definition (Ch. 800) was launched on May 9, initially as a free channel dedicated to the 2006 FIFA World Cup, and later became a paid channel on August 1, 2006. In 2007, with the renaming of SKY PerfecTV! 110 to e2 by SKY PerfecTV!, Sukachan! 110 was renamed Sukachan! (Ch. 801, 802). A new channel (Ch. 803) was added on February 1, 2008. A major expansion occurred on September 1, 2008, when many channels from Perfect Choice (Ch. 160-186) on SKY PerfecTV! were rebranded as Sukachan, and Sukachan! became Sukachan, Sukachan! High Definition became Sukachan HD. Channel numbers were appended to names. In October 2008, new HD channels Sukachan HD 190, 191, 192 were launched. Throughout 2009 and 2010, the lineup continued to evolve with additions and closures. In 2010, Sukachan 3D (Ch. 169) was launched on June 19, and Sukachan 801 was converted to HD as Sukachan HD 801 on September 1. In 2011, a 3D programming block was added to Sukachan HD 800, and several channels ceased broadcasting. On October 1, 2011, a major renaming simplified channel names to Sukachan followed by the last digit of the channel number (e.g., Sukachan 0 HD). In 2012, channel numbers were reorganized, and Sukachan 9-14 were launched on SKY PerfecTV! Premium Service, bringing the total to 16 channels. In 2013, Sukachan 3D ceased broadcasting, and some channels were closed or reopened. In 2014, standard-definition broadcasts on Premium Service ended. In 2015, Sukachan 6 was replaced by Sukasaka!. In 2016, the satellite general broadcasting operator changed from SKY Perfect Broadcasting to SKY Perfect Entertainment. In 2017, several channel renamings occurred, including Sukachan 0 becoming Sukasaka! and BS SKY PerfecTV! becoming Sukachan 5. Sukachan 14 ceased in 2017 but was revived in 2022. In 2018, Sukachan 3 and 2 ceased, and 4K channels Sukachan 1 4K and Sukachan 2 4K were launched on December 1. In 2020, Sukachan 4 was replaced by Sports Live+2, and Sukachan 1 on SKY PerfecTV! began simulcasting KNTV. In 2024, the 4K channels ceased. In 2025, Sukachan 12, 13, and 14 ceased broadcasting on Premium Service. As of 2025, the brand continues to operate several channels, primarily on SKY PerfecTV! and Premium Service.
