History

Sony Digital Network Applications was established in August 2000 by spinning off a part of Sony Corporation's VAIO software development team into a separate company, initially located in Kita-Shinagawa, Shinagawa-ku, Tokyo (former Sony Head Office Building 2). The company began software development for the VAIO personal computer, and subsequently expanded into software development for personal video devices, the Crie personal digital assistant, mobile phones, the Handycam digital video camera, the Cyber-shot digital still camera, and car navigation systems. It later integrated Sony Corporation's VAIO application development team and started software development for the Walkman portable audio player and semiconductor business. The headquarters was relocated to Higashi-Gotanda, Shinagawa-ku, Tokyo (Sony Gotenyama Technology Center Building 13), and later to Minatomirai, Nishi-ku, Yokohama, Kanagawa (Sony City Minatomirai). Over the years, the company has developed software for various products including the α digital single-lens camera, BRAVIA televisions, medical hard disk recorders, PlayStation, Reader e-book readers, in-app advertising delivery systems, Sony Tablet, and its own smartphone applications. It launched the smartphone photo album app 'million moments', developed and sold an Android app vulnerability inspection tool, developed the 2015 New Year's postcard AR app for Japan Post using LiveAction AR technology, and developed mobile apps such as 'Video & TV SideView' and 'SongPal (now Music Center)'. It began offering security diagnosis services, developed software for portable ultra-short-throw projectors, developed 'Keyakizaka46 Message' provided by Sony Music Solutions, developed software for the 'Glass Sound Speaker', and started development of the mobile app 'Headphones Connect (now Sound Connect)'. The company began serving as an instructor for Sony Group's HCD (Human-Centered Design) training, started software development for the 'Spatial Reality Display', developed software for 'Smart Swimming Lesson', developed software for the smartwatch 'wena 3', started development of the mobile app 'Home Entertainment Connect (now BRAVIA Connect)', began software development for flow cytometers, developed software for MUSVI Corporation's telepresence system 'Mado', and started development of 'Discover' for the website 'Creators' Cloud'.
