History

SSL.com was founded in 2002 in Houston, Texas, initially as a certificate reseller, with a mission to provide digital certificates and PKI solutions. On February 13, 2016, SSL.com issued its self-signed root certificate, which became the foundation for its certificate hierarchy and later achieved trust status across all major browsers and certificate stores worldwide. SSL.com joined the CA/Browser Forum as an associate member in October 2016 and became a full voting member on August 3, 2017. On August 1, 2018, SSL.com was approved as a NAESB Authorized Certification Authority (ACA), becoming one of only four ACAs meeting the WEQ-012 PKI Business Practice Standards.
