Overview

Stabo Elektronik GmbH, commonly known as stabo, is a German company specializing in radio technology, headquartered in Hildesheim. Founded in 1962 as Hans Kolbe & Co. by Johannes Kolbe, the company has been a prominent name in German radio communication for over six decades. Its product range focuses on CB radio, short-range radio, and operational radio, alongside home security products and, more recently, waterproof Bluetooth speakers. Stabo is known for its quality control, with products undergoing rigorous testing in Hildesheim, a claim reflected in its slogan "performed in Hildesheim." The company distributes its products through specialized retailers, electronics stores, and online shops across Germany and Europe. In 1997, Stabo was acquired by the French CB radio manufacturer Groupe President Electronics, under which it continues to operate as a subsidiary. Stabo has a history of innovation, including producing the first cordless telephone in Germany, the ST930, in 1988. It also produced model car racing tracks under the name Stabo Car between 1963 and 1979, and experiment kits in the 1960s. Today, Stabo remains a key player in the radio technology market, offering over 1,600 high-performance products.

History

Stabo Elektronik GmbH was founded in 1962 as Hans Kolbe & Co. by Johannes Kolbe in Hildesheim, Germany. The company initially produced experiment kits focusing on radio and low-frequency technology in the 1960s. Between 1963 and 1979, Stabo manufactured model car racing tracks under the name Stabo Car. In 1988, Stabo gained widespread recognition in Germany by introducing the ST930, the first cordless telephone in the country, approved by the Deutsche Bundespost. In early 1997, Stabo was acquired by the French CB radio manufacturer Groupe President Electronics. The following year, Stabo acquired a 49% stake in the insolvent Albrecht Elektronik. In 1999, Stabo acquired a stake in Brüggemann + Schönberger, a distributor of CB radio products. In 2001, Albrecht Elektronik bought back its shares due to "fundamental differences." Stabo has received multiple awards for its radio devices, including the CB-funk-Oscar, awarded by the trade magazine CB-funk. Between 1992 and 1999, Stabo devices won three times, with two awards going to devices from parent company President and one to Albrecht while under President. Today, Stabo continues to operate as a subsidiary of Groupe President Electronics, offering over 1,600 products in CB radio, short-range radio, and operational radio, as well as home security and Bluetooth speakers.
