Overview

STEICO is a German brand in wood-fibre insulation and natural building systems. Its history began in 1986 with the founding of Steinmann & Co. GmbH in Feldkirchen near Munich, initially a wood trading business focused on wholesale of imported wood products. The company name was later condensed to STEICO. It expanded into production in Poland, including a stake in Ekoplyta S.A. Czarnków from 1998 and full acquisition in 2005, and launched production lines for wood-fibre insulation boards, mats and loose-fill insulation. In 2001 Steinmann & Co. GmbH was converted into the non-listed STEICO AG. STEICO markets heat-protection construction systems and wood-fibre insulation products.

History

STEICO's history began in 1986 with the founding of Steinmann & Co. GmbH in Feldkirchen near Munich. The company, initially named Gesellschaft für Bau- und Industriebedarf Steinmann & Co. GmbH, was a wood trading business focused on wholesale of imported wood products. In its founding year, around one and a half employees generated revenue of approximately 2.35 million DM. The original company name was later condensed to STEICO. In 1998 STEICO acquired a stake in the Polish wood-fibre board manufacturer Ekoplyta S.A. Czarnków near Poznań, which had two wet-process production lines, and gradually expanded this stake until full acquisition in 2005. Also in 1998, production line P2 for wood-fibre insulation boards started operation in Czarnków. In 2001 Steinmann & Co. GmbH was converted into the non-listed STEICO AG. In 2002 production line W1 for wood-fibre insulation mats began in Czarnków, starting production of flexible STEICO flex wood-fibre insulation mats, and production line Zell1 for wood-fibre loose-fill insulation also started. In 2003 production line P3 for wood-fibre insulation boards started in Czarnków. In 2005 STEICO fully acquired the Czarnków production site and started production line P4 for wood-fibre insulation boards there, and also acquired the Czarna Woda production site in Poland.
