Overview

Stöbich Brandschutz GmbH is a German family-owned manufacturer of preventive structural fire protection products, headquartered in Goslar, Lower Saxony. The company was founded on 1 January 1980 by Lutz Ahner, Horst Steinert, Gerd Odlozinski and Jochen Stöbich, following a major fire at the Bahlsen plant in Hanover in 1978 that spread through conveyor system wall openings. Stöbich pioneered the first fire protection closures for continuous conveyor systems and later became a global market leader in textile smoke and fire protection curtains. The company operates three additional German sites in Bopfingen, Unna and Halle, and maintains over 50 international sales locations and partners, with an export share of approximately 39%. Its product portfolio includes textile smoke and fire curtains (Fibershield, Fiberseal, Smokeshield), conveyor system closures (ECClos, Omnicompact), fire protection hoods, control systems, early fire detection, and battery storage fire protection. Stöbich employs around 500 people in Germany and reported annual revenue of approximately €55.4 million. The Stöbich Holding group, with around 1,000 employees, generated around €93 million in 2021. The company has introduced 11 world firsts in structural fire protection and was named a Top 100 innovator in 2018 and 2021.

History

The origin of Stöbich Brandschutz lies in a major fire at the Bahlsen plant in Hanover in 1978, which caused millions in damages when fire spread through necessary wall openings of the conveyor system into several factory sections. At that time, no functioning or tested constructions existed for continuous transport systems. The first fire protection closures for continuous conveyor technology were subsequently designed for such openings. Stöbich Brandschutz was founded on 1 January 1980 in Goslar by the partners Lutz Ahner, Horst Steinert, Gerd Odlozinski and Jochen Stöbich. After two relocations (1982 and 1985), the company finally moved to a new building in the Goslar industrial park, where the headquarters remains today. In 1990, the South branch in Bopfingen was established. Two years later, Horst Steinert left the company and the East branch in Halle/Queis was opened. After the departure of the two partners Lutz Ahner and Gerd Odlozinski, the company changed its legal form to Stöbich Brandschutz GmbH. Jochen Stöbich handed over management in October 2020 for health reasons and passed away on 24 February 2021. The company's production focus initially was on structural fire protection systems for continuous conveyor systems. In addition, the development and production of textile fire and smoke protection solutions became its strongest business field, in which the company claims to be the world market leader. Its own developments have produced 11 world firsts in structural fire protection. The latest innovation is a fire curtain that for the first time successfully withstood the mechanical stress of the Hose Stream Test according to UL standard. The portfolio also includes products in sound insulation, emergency power and control systems. The company employs around 500 people in Germany and reported annual revenue of approximately €55.4 million. The Stöbich Holding GmbH & Co KG group, with further areas including structural fire protection, control technology, fabric development and finishing, optical metrology, fire damage restoration, insulation technology, and service and maintenance, achieved revenue of around €93 million with a total of about 1,000 employees (as of 2021).
