Suzlon was founded in 1995 with a belief in renewable energy, self-reliance, and long-term responsibility. The company's origin is tied to an energy challenge: frequent power outages within Tulsi Tanti's textile business uncovered a larger need for dependable power, and wind became the answer to unreliable supply and rising energy costs. The first 0.27 MW wind installation was completed for a client within three months, and Suzlon began building an end-to-end wind model across R&D, manufacturing, and operations & maintenance. By 2000, India's wind energy installations had grown to 1,155 MW. Between 2001 and 2009, Suzlon took globally benchmarked, affordable wind technology to developed renewable energy markets, expanded its footprint across 17 countries and six continents, and strengthened its technology base with global R&D centres in Germany, the Netherlands, Denmark, and India. By 2005, Suzlon became among the top 10 wind manufacturers in the world. The decade from 2010 to 2019 tested the renewable energy sector and sharpened the company's focus on resilience, while Suzlon continued building on integrated capability across technology, execution, and lifecycle support.
