Overview
SynSense is a neuromorphic intelligence company founded in 2017 by Dr. Qiao Ning of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Prof. Giacomo Indiveri, director of the Institute of Neuroinformatics (INI). It develops core chips for next-generation human-machine and brain-computer interfaces, built around sensing-computing integration and ultra-low power consumption. The company has R&D sites in Shanghai, Ningbo, and Chengdu in China, as well as Zurich, Switzerland, and holds nearly 300 patents. In 2024, SynSense completed the full acquisition of iniVation, a Swiss neuromorphic vision pioneer, which is now a SynSense Group company. Its product lines include the Xylo™ ultra-low-power neuromorphic computing chip for bioelectrical signals such as EMG and EEG, and the DVS series of bio-inspired vision sensors.
History
SynSense was founded in 2017 by Dr. Qiao Ning of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Prof. Giacomo Indiveri, director of the Institute of Neuroinformatics (INI). The company leverages over two decades of research excellence and assembles a global R&D team. It has established a strategic R&D footprint spanning Shanghai, Ningbo, and Chengdu in China, as well as Zurich, Switzerland, and holds nearly 300 patents, forming a full-stack "Sense + Compute" capability. In 2024, SynSense completed the full acquisition of iniVation, a Swiss neuromorphic vision pioneer, which is now a SynSense Group company. SynSense has earned accolades including the CES Innovation Award and the Ministry of Science and Technology's Disruptive Innovation Award. Looking ahead, the company plans to expand into the upstream brain-computer ecosystem by integrating "electrode + chip" modules.
