Overview

Technolit GmbH (written TECHNOLIT) is a German mid-sized trading company headquartered in Großenlüder in the Fulda district of Hesse. It was founded on 18 July 1979 by Wilhelm Lang, who started the business in a garage and an office in his home in Großenlüder. The company grew quickly: its first dedicated building in the Großenlüder industrial estate followed in 1981, and internationalisation began in the mid-1980s with subsidiaries and sales organisations in Austria (1985), the Netherlands (1986), Italy (1989) and Switzerland (1990). Further European sales organisations were added in Belgium and Luxembourg (1997) and Denmark (1998), and later in Sweden, the Czech Republic (2001), Poland and Hungary (2006). Technolit's business covers welding technology, chemical-technical products, cutting and grinding technology, tools and machines, and workshop supplies for trades and automotive workshops. Customers are served through a field sales force, extensive technical support and the company's own online shop, which operates under the TECHNOLIT-IWETEC banner. The product range includes welding equipment, filler materials, accessories and personal protective equipment; cutting discs, abrasives, brushes, cleaning agents and extraction technology; hand and power tools, workshop fittings and lifting equipment; vehicle chemistry such as brake cleaner, corrosion protection, assembly pastes, adhesives and sealants; operational equipment such as storage systems, workbenches, transport equipment and labelling systems; occupational safety items including workwear, gloves, helmets and hearing and eye protection; and automotive-specific consumables, tools, repair solutions and specialty chemicals. Technolit is part of the Langgroup (LANGGROUP), the corporate group restructured in 2016, and employs more than 1,500 people in internal and field service roles as of 2025. Simone Lang, daughter of the founder, took over strategic leadership as managing partner in 2016. The company has been recognised with awards including the "Großer Preis des Mittelstandes" of the Oskar-Patzelt-Stiftung in 2010, the "Wachstums-Champion 2011/12" title, second place in the Hessian business prize "Hessen-Champions" in the "Jobmotor" category in 2009, and a 2019 listing by the F.A.Z.-Institut as one of Germany's "most sought-after employers". In 2021 it commissioned a 4,200 m² photovoltaic system at its Großenlüder site to make its energy supply more sustainable.

History

Technolit GmbH was founded on 18 July 1979 by Wilhelm Lang. The business began in a garage and an office in the founder's home in Großenlüder, in the Fulda district of Hesse. Expansion came quickly: in 1981 the first company building was erected in the Großenlüder industrial estate. By the mid-1980s Technolit had begun internationalising, establishing subsidiaries and sales organisations in Austria (1985), the Netherlands (1986), Italy (1989) and Switzerland (1990). During the 1990s the product range was continuously expanded. In 1993 construction began on a new administration building with space for more than 200 employees. In the same year Technolit received the large suitability certificate (großer Eignungsnachweis) of the DVS as a registered welding specialist company according to DIN 18800. In 1996 the quality management system was certified according to DIN EN ISO 9001. European expansion continued with sales organisations in Belgium and Luxembourg (1997) and Denmark (1998). In the 2000s, despite difficult economic conditions in Germany, Technolit pursued growth. In 2000 the company reached a new high of more than 1,000 employees. New markets were opened in Sweden, the Czech Republic (2001), Poland and Hungary (2006). Digitalisation was advanced through the development of electronic archive systems. In 2009 Technolit took second place in the Hessian business prize "Hessen-Champions" in the "Jobmotor" category. In the 2010s Technolit won the "Großer Preis des Mittelstandes" of the Oskar-Patzelt-Stiftung in 2010 and was named "Wachstums-Champion 2011/12" in 2011. Employee numbers continued to rise, reaching around 1,550 in internal and field service roles in 2012. In the following years the company invested in warehouse technology, office space and logistics. In 2016 Simone Lang, daughter of the founder, took over strategic leadership as managing partner. In the same year the corporate group was restructured into LANGGROUP. In 2017 re-certification according to ISO 9001:2015 and 14001:2015 took place, along with certification according to EN 1090 for welding services. In 2019 Technolit celebrated its 40th anniversary and was recognised by the F.A.Z.-Institut as one of Germany's "most sought-after employers". Since 2020, in 2021 the company commissioned a photovoltaic system covering 4,200 m² at its Großenlüder site to make its energy supply more sustainable. As of 2025 Technolit is part of the Langgroup and employs more than 1,500 people in internal and field service roles.
