Overview

Tele Top is a Swiss local and regional television station headquartered in Winterthur. It traces its origins to WINTI TV, which received its first broadcasting concession for the Winterthur region in 1985 and aired its first programme in 1986 during the city's elections. During the 1990s the station moved closer to other local media, notably Tele D and Schaffhauser Fernsehen, to develop a regional television concept for eastern Switzerland. On 1 January 1999 WINTI TV was renamed Tele Top and received a new concession from the Federal Council. In 2007 the station applied for a concession to access the new licence fee and to expand its broadcast area. Supported by the Government of the Canton of Zurich and various other cantonal governments, Tele Top became the direct competitor of TeleZüri. On 31 October 2008 it won the concession against TeleZüri and has since been broadcast across the whole of northeastern Switzerland. From January 2013 the channel has been available throughout Switzerland via Swisscom TV. Tele Top's programming is built around the TOP brand, including TOP News (news), TOP Spezial (current affairs), TOP Sport (sports news), TOP Talk (talk show), TOP Pot (cooking) and TOP Wetter (weather). According to IP Multimedia, Tele Top had an audience of 110,000 daily viewers in 2005. The station is led by President and CEO Günter Heuberger, with Stefan Nägeli as programme director, Kathrin Röder as editor-in-chief and Gianni Huber in quality assurance.
