Overview

The Gasparilla Inn & Club is a historic resort on Boca Grande Island, Florida, welcoming guests since 1913. It blends Old Florida charm with timeless hospitality and offers more than 140 unique accommodations, a Gulf-front Beach Club, spa and fitness facilities, and a championship golf course.

History

In 1911, The Hotel Boca Grande first opened as a small two-story hotel with only 20 rooms. It was built by the Boca Grande Land Company, whose primary visionary, Peter Bradley, saw Gasparilla Island as a quiet, exclusive retreat. The hotel's expansion, led by Tampa architect Francis J. Kennard, introduced a Queen Anne style and elegant furnishings sourced from Wanamaker's in New York. Renamed The Gasparilla Inn, it opened its doors in 1913. The hotel quickly became a favorite among Boston's elite, leading to a 1915 expansion that doubled its size. The Inn welcomed tycoons like J.P. Morgan, Henry DuPont, and Harvey Firestone. In 1930, entrepreneur Barron Collier acquired The Gasparilla Inn for $150,000 and introduced a sophisticated Neo-Classical façade, elegant verandas, and a collection of detached guest cottages.
