Thisco

Thisco is a Portuguese independent record label founded in 2001 by Luís van Seixas and Fernando Cerqueira. Initially created to release the musical projects of its founding members, the label quickly established itself as a platform for experimental and avant-garde music that broke with the contemporary cultural status quo. Its catalogue includes works by Rasal.Asad and the Antibothis anthologies, produced in association with the publisher Chili Com Carne. Thisco has also co-edited releases with the Fonoteca Municipal de Lisboa (Lisbon Municipal Sound Library). In 2005, the label launched a parallel imprint, Passageiros da Maré, to accommodate projects in contemporary classical music and jazz, thereby distinguishing them from the main label's more experimental output. Thisco remains an active, privately held entity within the Portuguese independent music scene, with a focus on limited editions and cross-disciplinary collaborations.

The purpose of this sub-label was to blur the aesthetic differences within the growing catalogue of the parent label by directing projects in contemporary classical music or jazz to this new imprint. Thisco continues to operate as an independent Portuguese record label.
