History
TMS Co., Ltd. was founded in 2005 to commercialize drug seeds discovered by Keiji Hasumi, a professor at Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology's Fermentation Science Laboratory. The laboratory traces its research lineage to Dr. Akira Endo, discoverer of statins. In the course of exploring bioactive substances acting on blood coagulation and fibrinolysis, the laboratory discovered many novel compounds, including the SMTP compound group with both thrombolytic and anti-inflammatory effects. In June 2018, TMS signed an option agreement with Biogen for TMS-007, valued at up to $357 million, the largest such deal by a Japanese biotech at the time. In May 2021, Biogen exercised its option for TMS-007. In November 2022, TMS listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange Growth Market (ticker 4891). In January 2024, Biogen transferred the rights to TMS-007 to JIXING, and TMS signed a strategic partnership agreement with JIXING, acquiring development and sales rights for TMS-007 and JX09 in Japan.
