Overview

TMS International provides pre- and post-production mill services for global steelmakers, including scrap purchasing and optimization, inventory management, logistics, metal recovery, slag processing, steel scarfing, surface conditioning, refractory removal and maintenance. The company traces its roots to Tube City Iron & Metal, founded in 1926 as a scrap iron and metal dealer in McKeesport, PA, and International Mill Service, which evolved from a company operating a sand and gravel pit in the Cleveland, OH, area in 1936. Tube City and IMS combined in December 2004 to create Tube City IMS, and the company name was changed in 2016 to TMS International. The company states it provides mill services at close to 70 customer sites in 17 countries.

History

TMS International traces its roots to two separate companies in the metals industry: Tube City Iron & Metal and International Mill Service. Tube City was founded in 1926 as a scrap iron and metal dealer in McKeesport, PA. In 1928, the company moved to Glassport, PA, which was the location of its corporate headquarters until 2019, when the company moved its offices to the City of Pittsburgh. International Mill Service evolved from a company that operated a sand and gravel pit in the Cleveland, OH, area in 1936 and later expanded its operations internationally into slag processing and metal recovery. In December 2004, Tube City and IMS combined to create Tube City IMS. In 2016, the company name Tube City IMS was changed to TMS International to better reflect its integrated operations and global status.
