Overview
Trinks is a German beverage logistics company that serves the food retail sector as well as the hospitality industry. The Trinks-Gruppe operates a nationwide network of branches across Germany, with its headquarters in Hennef (Sieg) since 2022, having previously been based in Goslar. The company's origins date back to 1735, when the merchant J. F. Heyl founded a wholesale business for medicinal and mineral water in Berlin. Over the centuries, the company evolved through mergers and acquisitions, eventually becoming a dedicated beverage logistics provider. Today, Trinks is a major player in the German beverage logistics market, generating annual revenues of approximately 1.6 billion euros (as of 2018) and employing a fleet of around 350 trucks. The company's shareholders include the REWE Group (50%), Bitburger Braugruppe (16.66%), GL Verwaltungs GmbH (Krombacher) (16.66%), and Warsteiner Distribution Beteiligungsgesellschaft mbH (16.66%). Trinks' vision is to ensure that every person in Germany is supplied with their favorite beverages in a resource-conserving manner at all times.
History
The history of Trinks dates back to 1735, when the merchant J. F. Heyl founded a wholesale business for medicinal and mineral water in Berlin. In 1878, this business merged with the Berlin-based wholesale company Dr. M. Lehmann to form Dr. M. Lehmann und J. F. Heyl & Co. From 1922, the company cooperated with Rhenser Mineralbrunnen AG, and subsequently both companies were merged into Brunnenvertriebs-AG. Due to the Berlin Blockade after World War II, the company headquarters was moved to Goslar in 1948, and the company name was changed to Trinks AG. In 1953, the AG was converted into a GmbH. Rhenser Mineralbrunnen and Trinks GmbH had meanwhile become part of Blaue Quellen AG, which was acquired by Nestlé in 1974. The branch network was then systematically expanded. In 1976, Trinks GmbH had an annual turnover equivalent to 36 million euros; by 2004, it exceeded the 1 billion euro mark. Through the acquisition of several companies (2010: Wetterauer Getränkelogistik GmbH; 2011: M. Hubauer GmbH & Co. Getränke & Logistik KG; 2012: WIFA Getränke-Logistik GmbH & Co. KG), the annual turnover of the Trinks Group reached approximately 1.6 billion euros (2018). Retroactively to January 1, 2018, all limited partner shares of Bier-Hövelmann GmbH & Co. KG were acquired by Mineralquellen und Getränke H. Hövelmann GmbH. Within the Trinks Group, Bier-Hövelmann continues to operate as an independent company. In 2022, the company moved its headquarters from Goslar to Hennef (Sieg). As of 2023, following a capital increase, the shareholders of Trinks GmbH and Trinks Süd GmbH are REWE Group (50%), Bitburger Braugruppe (16.66%), GL Verwaltungs GmbH (Krombacher) (16.66%), and Warsteiner Distribution Beteiligungsgesellschaft mbH (16.66%). Until mid-2021, Nestlé Waters Deutschland also held a 25% stake, which the three brewery groups took over in equal parts.
