Overview

TROX is a German manufacturer and supplier of products and systems for indoor ventilation and air conditioning. Founded in 1951 by brothers Friedrich and Heinrich Trox, the business began by making air diffusers and introduced its TS series ventilation grille in its founding year. The company is headquartered in Neukirchen-Vluyn, North Rhine-Westphalia. In April 2025, the company changed its legal form from Trox GmbH to Trox SE; the wider international corporate grouping is referred to as the TROX Group. Its portfolio serves building and HVAC applications across air treatment, air distribution and flow control, fire and smoke protection, sound attenuation, and air filtration. The range includes air-handling units, air outlets, volume-flow control products, fire and smoke dampers, building fans, and related systems. The company also provides planning and operational support for customers, including product-selection tools, BIM and CAD data, online ordering, technical documentation, training, and remote services through its digital platforms. The company expanded beyond its original air-diffuser business through product development and acquisitions. Historical examples include additions in decentralized ventilation, air-water and laboratory systems, building fans, and regional businesses. The group’s stated international structure in the supplied reference includes subsidiaries across multiple countries, production facilities, and research and development centres. TROX presents its work under the theme “The Art of Handling Air” and also highlights healthy indoor air, sustainability, technical education, and customer support. The supplied official homepage describes a sustainability objective of climate neutrality by 2050.

History

TROX began in 1951, when brothers Friedrich and Heinrich Trox founded Gebrüder Trox GmbH to produce air outlets. The company’s first named product in the supplied historical account was the TS series ventilation grille, launched in the founding year. Production initially took place on Heinrich Trox’s private property in a 110-square-metre space. By 1954, the business had 75 employees and construction had begun on a production and administrative site in Neukirchen-Vluyn. The company expanded its technical capabilities early. In 1960, Heinrich’s sons Heinz and Klaus joined the business, and TROX began establishing its own research and development centre, working on acoustics, fire protection, filtration, and airflow technology. During the 1960s it also established its first foreign subsidiaries. In the 1970s, the product range grew to include air-water systems, bus systems, and systems for laboratories. Following Heinrich Trox’s death in 1970, Heinz and Klaus had been appointed managing directors in 1968. Klaus Trox died in 1988; Heinz Trox subsequently became the principal shareholder and led the management board until 2001. A series of acquisitions and portfolio expansions broadened the business from its original air outlets. TROX acquired Hesco AG in Switzerland and Hesco GmbH in Germany in 1998, and Mannheim-based FSL (Fassaden System Lüftung) in 2000, adding decentralized ventilation systems. It acquired Norwegian company Auranor AS in 2005. In 2006, the former Gebrüder Trox GmbH adopted the name Trox GmbH, while the worldwide group came to be known as the Trox Group. The company entered production and sales of air-handling units in 2011. In 2012, it took over the building-fan business of TLT-Turbo GmbH in Bad Hersfeld; that operation later used the name Trox X-Fans GmbH, from November 2017. In 2014, TROX acquired parts of the BSH Group businesses operating as BSH Technik in Austria, Poland, the Czech Republic, and Hungary. Heinz Trox chaired the company’s supervisory board through 31 December 2014 and became its honorary chairman on 1 January 2015. He died on 1 October 2015. The company’s group reference describes a substantial international organisation, with subsidiaries, manufacturing sites, and research and development centres in several countries. The supplied official material shows a contemporary business that combines physical ventilation and air-conditioning products with digital planning, ordering, documentation, training, and remote-service offerings. In April 2025, Trox GmbH changed its legal form to Trox SE.
