Overview

TUB Meuse Grand Sud, also known as Transport Urbains du Barrois (TUB), is the urban bus network serving the French town of Bar-le-Duc and its surrounding agglomeration in the Meuse department. The network operates under the TUB brand and is part of the public transport offering of the Meuse Grand Sud agglomeration community. Its services include urban lines, secondary and reinforcement lines, school lines, and on-demand transport (TAD) for municipalities not covered by regular routes. The network's history dates back to 1982, when the first bus service in Bar-le-Duc was created with two urban lines: Line 1 connecting Ville Haute to the hospital, and Line 2 linking Marbot and Rochelle. A third line between Fains-Véel and Rochelle was added in 1995. In 2008, the network became free of charge across all lines. Six years later, following the creation of Meuse Grand Sud, the TUB network was completely restructured, including a new Line 1 connection between Bar-le-Duc and Ligny-en-Barrois. As a result, fares were reintroduced to avoid increasing local taxation. The TUB fleet consists of standard buses, midibuses, and coaches. Some vehicles are equipped with diesel-electric hybrid engines, while others run on diesel. The network's depot, operated by Transdev Grand Est, is located at 59 Rue Ernest Bradfer, 55000 Bar-le-Duc. The network operates nine school lines numbered 11 to 19, covering the agglomeration territory on weekdays during school periods. On-demand transport services are primarily aimed at municipalities not served by regular lines.

History

The first bus service in Bar-le-Duc was created in 1982, initially comprising two urban lines: Line 1 running between Ville Haute and the hospital, and Line 2 connecting Marbot and Rochelle. This marked the beginning of organized urban public transport in the town. In 1995, a third line was added, circulating between Fains-Véel and Rochelle, extending the network's reach within the agglomeration. In 2008, the network was made free of charge on all lines, a notable policy decision aimed at encouraging public transport use. Six years later, following the creation of the Meuse Grand Sud agglomeration community, the TUB network underwent a complete restructuring. A new connection (Line 1) was established between Bar-le-Duc and Ligny-en-Barrois, significantly expanding the network's territorial coverage. As a consequence of this restructuring, the network reintroduced fares in order to avoid increasing local taxation. The network today operates under the TUB brand, with a fleet of standard buses, midibuses, and coaches, some of which are diesel-electric hybrids. The depot is operated by Transdev Grand Est and is located at 59 Rue Ernest Bradfer in Bar-le-Duc. The network includes urban lines, secondary and reinforcement lines, nine school lines (numbered 11 to 19), and on-demand transport services for municipalities not covered by regular routes.
