Overview

TV Asta is a local television station serving the city of Piła and surrounding communities in the Greater Poland (Wielkopolska) region of Poland. Its origins trace back to 1989, when the company "Przedsiębiorstwo Produkcyjno Handlowo Usługowe ASTRA PIŁA" s.c. was established. In 1994, favourable market conditions and demand for a regional medium led to the creation of its own television programme on the cable network. On 15 December 1994, Astra Piła s.c. received a licence to broadcast a television programme under the name "ASTRA", and Telewizja Astra Sp. z o.o. was formed with 100% capital from ASTRA Piła s.c. The decision to create a new company was also driven by plans to capitalise the purely media business by admitting a strategic investor. In 2004, Telewizja Astra Sp. z o.o. changed its name to TV ASTA Sp. z o.o., because the name ASTRA had been trademarked by another company operating in a similar industry. The station broadcasts its programmes in Piła, Złotów, Ujście, Wałcz, Czarnków, Chodzież, Krajenka and Mirosławiec, and currently reaches more than 60,000 people. As a local television station, TV ASTA produces news, public affairs, sports, cultural and motoring programmes. It belongs to the Asta Group and is available on the Asta-Net cable network. On 7 May 2012, an HDTV version of the channel was launched. The station's schedule includes regular news bulletins such as "Informacje", interview programmes like "Rozmowa dnia", and a range of local magazines covering politics, culture, history and regional affairs.
