Overview
UK ENIC, previously known as UK NARIC, is the UK national information centre for international qualifications and skills. It is the official organisation for the recognition and comparison of international qualifications and skills, working with the Department for Education (DfE) to help individuals and organisations in the UK and internationally. UK ENIC is managed by Ecctis for the UK government. It offers services for individuals, including a Statement of Comparability that compares international qualifications to the UK education system, Early Years Services for those who want to work with young children in the UK, and a UK Qualification Reference Statement. For organisations, it provides annual membership packages, ordering of Statements in advance, and in-person training and events. UK ENIC derives its authority from the Lisbon Recognition Convention and performs national recognition agency duties for the UK government.
History
UK ENIC was previously known as UK NARIC and was renamed UK ENIC after the UK left the European Union. It is managed by Ecctis for the UK government's Department for Education. UK ENIC gets its authority from the Lisbon Recognition Convention, which came into effect in 1997; countries that have signed the Convention must ensure they can recognise qualifications from other countries and must set up a national agency for recognition, duties UK ENIC performs for the UK government. UK ENIC also participates in the ENIC-NARIC Networks, through which the European Network of Information Centres (ENIC) and National Academic Recognition Information Centres in the European Union (NARIC) work together to make it easier to find information about qualifications and recognition in different countries.
