History
Heinrich C. Ulrich founded the medical technology company in Ulm in 1912. Initially, the focus was on the manufacture and sale of surgical instruments, for example for visceral, bone and vascular surgery, with an affiliated orthopedic and surgical workshop. In 1914, the company launched its first in-house development, the Möltgen protractor, a medical device used to determine the joint angles of the extremities. In 1925, Max Ulrich, the son of the founder, joined the family business and expanded it, laying the foundation for worldwide sales. In 1958, the company began involvement in radiology with the launch of the first Hettler high-pressure injector, which had a pneumatic drive unit and was suitable for all angiographic examinations. Internationalization continued successfully from 1967. The company has been continuously setting milestones in innovation, quality and safety since 1912. It established subsidiaries in the USA in 2006, France in 2017, and Spain in 2024. In 2025, revenue grew to EUR 178 million. In early June 2026, ulrich medical launched the Artus cervical plate system.
