History

Unite Procurement Deutschland AG, formerly Mercateo Deutschland AG, traces its origins to the founding of Mercateo AG in 1999 in Munich by three former McKinsey consultants: Dirk Markus, Harald Fett, and Sebastian Wieser. In 2000, E.ON Energie AG invested in Mercateo and appointed Peter Ledermann as a board member. The company's business areas extended beyond the online trading platform to IT project business and e-solutions. Following E.ON's exit in 2003, a management buy-out was carried out by Sebastian Wieser and Peter Ledermann. From then on, Mercateo focused exclusively on the trading model. In 2004, Mercateo Services GmbH was founded in Köthen (Anhalt) as a wholly owned subsidiary of Mercateo Beteiligungsholding AG, taking over the operational business of the online retailer. In 2011, websites were established in the Netherlands, France, Italy, and Spain. At the end of September 2018, the trading business of Mercateo AG was spun off into the new Mercateo Deutschland AG, and the original AG was renamed Unite Network SE, under which only the networking platform Mercateo Unite is operated. At the beginning of 2020, Mercateo Beteiligungsholding AG moved its headquarters from Munich to Leipzig. In 2024, the former Mercateo Deutschland AG was renamed Unite Procurement Deutschland AG.
