Overview
The Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority (VCAA) plays a critical role in Victoria's education system and is committed to delivering high-quality curriculum, assessment and reporting services. It sets and upholds curriculum, assessment and reporting standards so that teachers and schools can deliver a high-quality, fair and connected learning journey. The VCAA develops and implements curricula and assessment including the Victorian F–10 curriculum, Victorian F–10 assessment, VCE curriculum, VET and VPC, and it celebrates student achievement and excellence through achievement and excellence awards. It is a statutory authority primarily accountable to the Minister for Education, serving both government and non-government schools.
History
The VCAA was established under the repealed Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority Act 2000 and continues to operate under the Education and Training Reform Act 2006. It is a statutory authority primarily accountable to the Minister for Education, serving both government and non-government schools, and is also responsible to the Minister for Education and the Minister for Training and Skills in relation to sections of Part 2.5 of the Act that they administer. The Chief Executive Officer is responsible to the VCAA Board for all policy and operational matters, and to the Secretary of the Department of Education and Training for budgetary, personnel and other administrative matters, with all executive directors reporting to the Chief Executive Officer.
