VDI Technology Center

VDI Technology Center (VDI Technologiezentrum GmbH, VDI TZ) is a German innovation agency and project management organization based in Düsseldorf, with an additional office in Berlin. Founded in 1975 as a division of the VDI e.V. (Association of German Engineers), it has operated as an independent limited liability company (GmbH) since 2003. The organization is part of the VDI Group and serves as a leading project management agency in Germany. VDI TZ implements research and innovation funding programs on behalf of federal and state ministries, the European Commission, foundations, and other clients. It manages over 3,500 research projects annually and administers more than one billion euros in funding. Its thematic focus includes key technologies such as quantum technologies and materials, digitalization, mobility, security, education, health, sustainability, and energy. The organization also operates contact and business offices, for example for the Industrie 4.0 platform, and supports stakeholder dialogues and networks. It designs and accompanies strategy and agenda processes, such as regional innovation strategies, and conducts studies, analyses, and evaluations. With over 380 employees at its Düsseldorf and Berlin locations, VDI TZ is a modern employer and a key player in Germany's innovation ecosystem. It is a member of PT-NETZ, the network of project management agencies, and a supporter of the Initiative D21. The company is certified according to ISO/IEC 27001:2013 for information security and ISO 9001:2015 for quality management in project management. In 2021, it published its first declaration under the German Sustainability Code. In 2023, VDI Zentrum Ressourceneffizienz GmbH (VDI ZRE) became part of VDI TZ.
