Overview
Visma Amplio Oy was a Finnish business-software company that served small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) with cloud and on-premise tools for accounting, invoicing, ERP and appointment booking. It was part of the Norwegian Visma group, one of the world's largest business-software networks, which owns more than 150 software companies and serves around 2.7 million customers. Visma Amplio's roots go back to Solanum Oy, founded in Pori in 1990 by brothers Heikki and Mika Taipale, and to Passeli Ohjelmat Oy, established in 1996. The Passeli accounting software became widely used among Finnish entrepreneurs, and the company was sold to Visma in 2011. In 2023 Visma Passeli was renamed Visma Amplio and parts of Visma Software Oy were merged into it. Its product portfolio included the Nova and Fikuro ERP systems, the OWS message-brokering solution, Passeli Merit and eAccounting invoicing and bookkeeping programs, Verkkolaskut.fi, Visma Net Expense, and the DigitalBooker appointment-booking system. In December 2025 it was announced that the company's operations would be transferred into other Finnish Visma companies in summer 2026, and Visma Amplio is now a former Finnish company.
History
Visma Amplio Oy was a Finnish software company focused on tools for small and medium-sized enterprises. Its history combines two Finnish software lineages: Solanum/Passeli and Liinos/Visma Software. The Passeli line began in 1990, when brothers Heikki Taipale and Mika Taipale founded Solanum Oy in Pori. They launched Ostoslinja and marketed various consumer products on television, including the Aromipesä cooking device. Passeli Ohjelmat Oy was established in 1996. The Passeli software had originally been developed for the company's own use, but its rights were bought from a partner and it was marketed to others. As the product succeeded, the brothers decided to focus on it. In addition to shorter Passeli commercials, a 15–20 minute advertising programme called Passeli Studio was produced in 2003 and 2004, hosted by Reijo Salminen. Passeli's cartoon mascot was big-headed and bald. By the early 2000s, tens of thousands of Finnish entrepreneurs had adopted Passeli. The company also acquired the SaaS-based Netvisor software service, used by about 5,500 companies in 2011. In 2011 Heikki and Mika Taipale sold Passeli to Visma through their Solanum Oy. Passeli was then used in 650 different industries and the company's revenue was EUR 8.6 million. The deal made Heikki Taipale, who owned 80 percent of the company, the highest-earning Finn of the year. In 2012 Passeli and Netvisor were used by more than 60,000 companies in Finland. In 2015 Visma Passeli bought DigitalBooker Finland Oy, founded in 2007, which made SaaS-based appointment-booking systems used by e.g. masseurs and hairdressers. In 2017 the Passeli product family included several software products, and the company began cooperation with Paybyway. In 2018 Visma Passeli bought Merit Software Oy, which developed accounting software. In 2020 the company bought Paybyway, whose PayForm product was aimed at online stores and offered multiple payment methods: card payment, online banking, wallet services, invoice and instalments. Visma Passeli renewed the Verkkolaskut.fi software. In 2022 the Merit Aktiva software was renamed Passeli Merit. The Liinos/Visma Software line began in 1988, when Matti Häll founded Liinos. In the late 1990s Liinos bought Compupro, which developed the Hansa software, Delectia, and Siemens-Nixdorf's property-management business. The company listed on the stock exchange in 1999. In December 2001 the Norwegian Visma made an offer for the Finnish ERP-focused Liinos. Both Liinos and Visma had focused on Microsoft products. It was Visma's first acquisition in Finland. The deal completed in 2002. Later Liinos founder Matti Häll was convicted of aggravated insider trading; he had acquired Liinos shares in autumn 2001 for his family and two company managers. Liinos was renamed Visma Software Oy. In 2022 Visma Software bought OWS Finland Oy, specialised in message brokering. In October 2023 Visma Passeli became Visma Amplio, and part of Visma Software Oy was merged into it. Visma Software's operations were also divided among three other Visma companies: Visma Solutions, Visma Devendor and Visma Sirius. Visma Amplio received three ERP systems (Nova, Visma.net and Fikuro) as well as the OWS message-brokering solution. Visma Amplio's earlier products included invoicing and bookkeeping programs for small businesses (Passeli Merit, ePasseli and verkkolaskut.fi), the online payment service Visma Pay and the appointment-booking system DigitalBooker. In 2025 Visma Amplio had seven offices in Finland, the largest in Pori and Helsinki, with its headquarters in Porin Puuvilla. Its products in 2025 included the Nova and Fikuro ERP systems, the OWS message-brokering solution, small-business invoicing and bookkeeping programs Passeli Merit, eAccounting and Verkkolaskut.fi, Visma Net Expense (travel and expense claims), the DigitalBooker appointment system, and on-premise software Passeli Yritys, Passeli Laskutus and Passeli+ products (Standard, Lite and Professional). In December 2025 it was announced that the company's operations would be transferred into other Finnish Visma companies in summer 2026. Visma Amplio is therefore a former Finnish company.
