Overview
The Wally Byam Caravan Club International (WBCCI), now doing business as Airstream Club International (ACI), is a membership organization for owners of Airstream travel trailers and touring coaches. Founded in 1955 in Kentville, Nova Scotia, during one of Wally Byam's legendary caravans, the club was formally registered in Ohio in 1957 and renamed to its current legal title in 1963. It is a 501(c)(7) non-profit social club, governed by an elected International Board of Trustees and supported by a small paid staff at its headquarters in Jackson Center, Ohio. The club's core activities are rallies and caravans. Rallies bring members together for camping, socializing, and shared interests ranging from outdoor sports to food and wine tastings. Caravans are organized group journeys, often following routes inspired by Wally Byam's original expeditions across the Americas, Europe, and Africa. The club also operates a Courtesy Parking program, with over 900 members offering free overnight parking across the United States, lower Canada, and Europe. Membership benefits include access to a members-only section of the website, discount codes from partner companies, a digital membership directory, and a monthly magazine. The club is organized into 12 regions, each led by a president who serves on the International Board of Trustees. The Executive Committee, drawn from experienced volunteers, provides ongoing leadership. The club's motto and ethos reflect Wally Byam's vision of using Airstream travel to build friendships and explore the world. As of 2025, the club is led by President Millie O'Donnell and Vice President Jan Heavener, with Lori Tilton serving as Executive Director. The club continues to host major events, including the International Rally, with the 2026 edition scheduled for Minot, North Dakota. With a history spanning 70 years, WBCCI/ACI remains a vibrant community for Airstream enthusiasts, preserving the legacy of Wally Byam and Helen Byam Schwamborn.
History
The Wally Byam Caravan Club (WBCC) was chartered in 1955 in Kentville, Nova Scotia, Canada, during the Wally Byam Eastern Canadian Caravan. It was inspired by the international caravans led by Wally Byam, the creator and founder of Airstream. The club was registered in the State of Ohio as a 501-C7 non-profit on June 21, 1957. In December 1963, the name was amended to Wally Byam Caravan Club International, Inc. (WBCCI). Helen Byam Schwamborn, one of the 80 charter members, organized and supported the club until 1979. The club legally operates under one of eight "doing business as" (dba) names, including Airstream Club International. For 70 years, the club has been inspired by Wally Byam's desire to "encourage clubs and rallies that provide an endless source of friendships, travel fun and personal expressions." The club is organized into 12 regions, each led by a president who serves for two years on the International Board of Trustees.
