Overview

Wilderness Travel is an adventure travel company founded in 1978 by Bill Abbott. It offers more than 200 trips in over 80 countries, including wildlife safaris, hiking, and expedition cruises.

History

Wilderness Travel was founded in 1978 by Bill Abbott and his initial partner Robert Wolfson. The company opened its doors in a tiny office in Berkeley, California. The founding vision was to provide travelers with off-the-map expeditions accompanied by local insiders. The first trips included an expedition traversing the Upper Amazon and the first commercial group to cross the Strait of Magellan.
