Overview

WS Teleshop (also referred to as WS Teleshop International) was a Czech multinational non-food retail chain founded in 1994 by its parent company, WS Invertion. The business operated as a television shopping and direct-retail operation, selling non-food consumer goods through long-format television advertisements and related direct channels rather than through conventional storefronts alone. Its model was built around infomercial-style programming: most of its advertisements ran for around 15 minutes, while shorter two-minute films also appeared within advertising blocks. The company expanded across Central and Eastern Europe, with operations in the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland, Romania and Hungary. In Hungary, its television presence became particularly recognizable from 2000 onward, when the male voice of Bodrogi Attila generally represented the role of Horst Fuchs in the Hungarian advertisements until the company ceased operations. A female voice was provided by Zakariás Éva, and additional voices included Presits Tamás (who dubbed Pepi Rösler), Pál Tamás, Szokol Péter, Szórádi Erika, Kapácsy Miklós and Roatis Andrea. WS Teleshop began closing its stores for liquidation reasons in 2010 across three Central European countries — Poland, the Czech Republic and Slovakia — as well as Romania. In the second half of 2016 or the first half of 2017, it began permanently closing its stores worldwide, including in Hungary. Following its withdrawal, its market position in Hungary was taken over by Mediashop. The brand is now defunct.

History

WS Teleshop was founded in 1994 by its parent company, WS Invertion, as a Czech multinational non-food retail chain. In 2010, for liquidation reasons, the company began closing its stores in three Central European countries — Poland, the Czech Republic and Slovakia — as well as in Romania. In the second half of 2016 or the first half of 2017, it began permanently closing its stores worldwide, including in Hungary. Its place in the Hungarian market was taken over by Mediashop. The brand is now defunct.
