US Justice Department backs X's bid to annul EU fine; EU vows to defend in court
Lawsuit filed
The U.S. Justice Department said it had filed an application at the EU General Court to support X's bid to annul a 120 million euro ($137 million) fine that the European Commission imposed on the platform late last year for breaches of the EU's Digital Services Act, after regulators found X's blue checkmarks involved "deceptive design practices" and could expose users to scams and manipulation. The European Commission said it is ready to defend the fine in court, calling enforcement of its legislation the EU's "sovereign right". The Justice Department warned that the fine, if upheld, "may have significant implications" for U.S. online platforms and other companies providing digital services in the EU.

B.C. tribunal reverses penalty against X
Ruling
The Civil Resolution Tribunal of British Columbia reversed a $100,000 penalty against X for not deleting an intimate image shared on its platform, finding that blocking the image in Canada reasonably addressed its distribution.
Source excerpt
The Civil Resolution Tribunal of B.C. says in a decision rendered Monday that the case stems from its March 2025 protection order that X delete the intimate image shared on its platform.
Tribunal vice chair Eric Regehr says in the latest decision that he’s reversing the fine after X took “reasonable steps” to address the image’s distribution by blocking it in Canada.
Though the original order was to “delete” it altogether, Regehr agreed the tribunal does not have that authority.
