YAMAGIWA was founded in 1923 as an electrical materials wholesaler in Akihabara. In 1954 it established a lighting department, marking the full-scale start of its lighting business. In 1964 it established a lighting external sales department and began partnering with numerous Western lighting brand manufacturers to start an import business; in the same year it began handling lighting for a wide range of public and private projects including museums, offices, commercial facilities and hotels.
