Overview
Ericpol was a Polish software development and information-technology services company established in Łódź in 1991 as Ericpol Telecom. It began by testing telephone-exchange monitoring software for Ericsson and subsequently developed into a substantial engineering and outsourcing organization serving telecommunications companies, technology manufacturers, enterprises, financial institutions, healthcare providers, and public-sector or technology-oriented organizations. The company's early relationship with Ericsson was central to its development. Within a few years of its creation, Ericpol personnel were participating in projects conducted by Ericsson research and development departments outside Poland. The company expanded from its original Łódź base by opening an office in Kraków in 1996 and later establishing operations in Sweden, Ukraine, and Belarus. Its international locations included Linköping, Lviv, and Brest, while Poland remained the center of its corporate and engineering activity. By 2012, the Ericpol Group reportedly employed about 1,790 people, including more than 1,300 engineers. Ericpol's capabilities covered dedicated software development, IT outsourcing, consulting, system customization, testing, maintenance, and technical training. Telecommunications was its principal area, including software design, maintenance, and testing for hardware and software manufacturers. The company also worked in machine-to-machine and embedded-systems engineering, including automotive-related projects. It became a core member of the GENIVI Alliance in 2010, reflecting its involvement in open automotive software and connected-device technologies. Beyond telecommunications, Ericpol developed healthcare products and enterprise applications. Its healthcare portfolio included Dr Eryk, a software package for managing medical practices and outpatient clinics, and ErLab, a communications system linking medical centers with cooperating laboratories. The company also supplied enterprise resource planning and business-intelligence applications, as well as financial and banking systems covering enterprise management, sales support, debt-recovery processes, enterprise-service-bus integration, business-process management, videoconferencing, business-to-business portals, and cloud-based data and document processing. Ericpol was also associated with academic and technical institutions in Poland. It cooperated with the Technical University of Łódź, the Jagiellonian University, the University of Łódź, and AGH University of Science and Technology in Kraków. Company specialists contributed lectures and seminars for students in telecommunications, applied mathematics, and computer science. In April 2016, Ericsson acquired Ericpol. At the time, the business was reported to have approximately 2,300 employees and expertise in radio, Internet Protocol, and cloud-computing technologies. The former Ericpol operation was renamed Ericsson Sp. z o.o. in February 2017. As a result, Ericpol no longer operated as an independent corporate brand, although its personnel, capabilities, and activities were incorporated into Ericsson.
History
Ericpol was founded in Łódź in 1991 under the name Ericpol Telecom. Its first assignment involved testing telephone-exchange monitoring software for Ericsson. This initial engagement developed into a broader technical relationship: by 1993, Ericpol staff were taking part in projects managed by Ericsson research and development units outside Poland. The company expanded its Polish footprint in 1996 when it opened a second office in Kraków. Its workforce exceeded 100 employees by 1998. Internationalization began in 2004 with the creation of branch operations in Linköping, Sweden, and Lviv, Ukraine. A further subsidiary opened in Brest, Belarus, in 2007. The resulting network supported work for telecommunications customers, technology manufacturers, and organizations using advanced software systems. Ericpol received the Leader of Modern Technologies award in 2005 and the Teraz Polska emblem in 2008. Its healthcare product Dr Eryk also received a Teraz Polska emblem in the product and services category in 2008. The company invested in distinctive office facilities during this period. In Łódź, it restored an early twentieth-century factory building and adapted it for office use; the project was nominated for a Best Interior of the Year award. In Kraków, the company renovated a tenement property near the Vistula and Wawel Castle, with the work receiving a nomination for the Janusz Bogdanowski Award. In 2010, Ericpol opened a modern Kraków office in the Kraków Technology Park, within a special economic zone. The site was described as providing capacity for approximately 500 jobs. The same year, Ericpol became a core member of the GENIVI Alliance, connecting its embedded-systems work with an industry initiative focused on open automotive software. By 2012, the Ericpol Group reportedly employed 1,790 people, more than 1,300 of them engineers, across its operations in Poland, Sweden, Ukraine, and Belarus. Ericpol's business combined project-based engineering with outsourced development and support. Telecommunications remained its leading specialization, while machine-to-machine systems, embedded software, healthcare, enterprise applications, business intelligence, finance, and banking broadened its market base. It also maintained relationships with Polish universities and contributed to the education of students in telecommunications, mathematics, and computer science. Ericsson acquired Ericpol in April 2016. The transaction transferred an organization reported to have about 2,300 employees and expertise in radio, IP, and cloud technologies to Ericsson. In February 2017, the company was renamed Ericsson Sp. z o.o. The renaming marked the end of Ericpol as an independent corporate brand and the integration of its business into Ericsson.
